By Thursday, that issue was resolved. Bring on the next thing. While busy in the kitchen, attempting to multi-task - making dinner, making cookies and reading Schmoo's spelling test words to her - I proceeded to forget to put water in the steamer and melted the bottom of the pot into the drip pan of the element. Silver lining - Papa was at home and able to help me clean it up and no one was hurt. Still, pretty frustrating and now we have to find a new drip pan.
The bad luck escalated on Friday. A note came home earlier in the week from Bean's school that there was head lice in the classroom. My check of his head earlier in the week turned up nothing. Friday afternoon though, I found one little creepy crawly in his hair and so the clean up began. The beds were stripped and the washing machine put on. I went to the pharmacist and Papa and I endured the excrutiating experience of shampooing Bean's hair. Of course, the laundry needed to be attended to. And you can imagine my.....not sure of the right word here....surprise, when I got to the washing machine and found myself with a wet sock. Further inspection revealed a leaky washing machine, with a likely blown transmission.
So Saturday was busy. I spent the morning at the laundromat, finishing the mammoth amount of laundry I needed to do. In between load transfers, I went to the local appliance shop and picked out a new washing machine which they delivered later that afternoon. I spent the afternoon at a pre-baby shower for our neighbour, returned home to clean-up and then headed out with Papa for our close friends C & K's going away party. Needless to say, Papa and I were both ready for a drink.
The party was obviously exactly what we needed. We had a great time visiting and dancing the night away at our friend's house, ending the evening with a walk home together in the rain. Thankfully there was an umbrella in our car....so maybe our luck is turning?!!
Today has been quiet. I confess that I have spent most of the day in and out of bed and the weather was perfect for it. Bean was more than happy to spend the day watching various soccer games with his Papa and Schmoo spent the day in her pre-pre-teen funk. She eventually put herself to bed in the afternoon, which is probably exactly what she needed. In the end, it's been a crummy week, but I'm glad to have someone by my side who keeps me laughing through the tough stuff.
