A couple of funny stories today.
The first was from this weekend. Definitely the "laugh out loud" moment of the weekend. When I was at the wedding on Saturday, I was catching up with my godfather J, talking about the comings and goings of our respective children. His sons A & J are 14 and 10 now, so he was telling me about their interests in rock climbing and basketball. The dance had started at this point in our conversation, so it was pretty loud and difficult to hear. I proudly announced to him "Schmoo's going to be a skipper" to which his face dropped, like he wasn't sure to respond. "Schmoo's going to be a stripper?" he responded. Of course I was quick to correct him and bring him up to speed on the comings and goings of competitive skipping. It definitely made us both laugh.
Today I headed into Schmoo's school at lunchtime for a quick hello as I walked back to my car on my way to get Bean. I finish work during her lunchbreak and I like to sneak in to the schoolyard for a quick hello and hug. As I scanned the playground, Schmoo was nowhere to be seen. I asked a couple of boys from her class, who had no idea of her whereabouts. As I headed into the school to check for her, a couple of older girls came running up to me and asked if I was looking for Schmoo. "She's at choir" they told me. I was perplexed. First, I didn't know the school was running a choir group at lunchtime and more importantly, last time I checked, music was one of Schmoo's least favorite subjects. She hasn't been interested in singing before, so I wondered, why now? As I went downstairs and found the group coming down the hallway, my questions were quickly answered. There she was walking down the hall, surrounded by a gaggle of Grade 4 girls...her big buddies. A quick hello and she was off to the playground. I asked her later about joining choir and she herself commented on not knowing why she joined, that she didn't really like singing. Funny kid....she just loves to be where the action is!
