That is definitely the theme of our holiday. Schmoo and Bean are suddenly at an age where they can endure the wims of their parents' need to walk everywhere. That's not to say there isn't frequent requests for a taxi ride. The winning combination seems to be walking on the beach. The condo we are staying at is locating in the middle of the north Mazatlan beach area, so it provides us with two directions to choose from. In one destination is a coffee shop - a great motivator since it sells coffee for Papa and Grandma Lady and brownies for the rest of us. The other direction is town.
Yesterday, while Grandma Lady was in town for church and her social calls, we decided to head in the direction of town and see how far we could get. In order to get to town you have to walk to the end of the beach, take a mini ferry across the marina and then walk a bit further to the restaurants. The kids did great. Schmoo ran down almost 1/2 the beach, sending herself on mini-races. Bean would follow, once she stopped and tell her how many seconds she had run and award her an imaginary medal. They're such good friends! We managed to make is all the way to the open air BBQ restaurant that Auntie E and Uncle R had raved about from their visit in December. Getting home was much quicker, with yet another daredevil bus ride around the marina and down the strip.
The first half of the trip has been wonderful. There's a beach walk every day, at least two swims in the pool every day (if only just for Schmoo), some spanish cartoons in the morning and lots of great visiting with Grandma Lady. We've made it to the local aquarium for the seal lion show, enjoyed several different types of salsa and guacamole, had a date night down to the Old Town on Saturday night, taken lots of different Senor Frogs pictures, been to Dairy Queen and only eaten at McDonalds once. We've still got hopes for a trip to the local waterpark and hopefully a boat ride for Bean on his birthday. We all have sun-kissed skin, so will return home with atleast that for a souvenier.
