Day one complete!

We did it!  Day one is done.  Okay, it was only a half day, but we did it.  Okay, Bean did it.

He was up and ready to go early this morning.  His demeanor shifted a bit when we actually got to school.  Both kids were pretty quiet, just observing on the playground.  Poor Schmoo, I forgot about her completely.  When the bell rang, she came running to say good-bye.  Bean shuffled into the kindergarten classroom and got settled.  The other parents were busy taking pictures of their kids and I was lucky to get a few of Bean.  The teacher started the day with a song and then bid the parents farewell.  Bean turned and gave me a little wave and that was that.  I shuffled down the hill to work, feeling a bit empty.

It sounds like the morning went well.  Both kids had little to say about the activities of the morning.  Bean's teacher said it went well.  Apparently he was pretty quiet all morning and stuck pretty close to the teacher, who he knows well.  Tomorrow will be a big day.  Luis Suarez (the helper hand) has to get out of bed and come to school starting tomorrow.  So it will be introduction day.  Bean's occupational therapist that we've been working with all summer is coming for an hour in the morning to help Bean and show the teacher how she can help encourage him.  I'll stick around for awhile too to make sure the transition goes smoothly.

The afternoon was hectic until we got home.  We made our way down the hill to the bakery for lunch, along with most other families in town.  The kids were starving!  Then we ambled down the main street to find some new shoes for Bean and make a pit stop at the coffee shop to check on Uncle R's mugs for sale.  We returned home for quiet time.  Schmoo slept, Bean did not.  Papa returned home in time to pick up Schmoo for her soccer practice and we made it to the field after our grocery shop just in time to pick her up.  Bedtime went smoothly tonight, but I expect it will get more challenging as the week goes on.
