End of year

The last week of the school year is in full swing this week. Our lives for the next 20 years are going to revolve on a September to June schedule and this year is our first big one. Today's event was Bean's last day of gymnastics. Hard to believe he's gone from this last year....

to this....

finding a way to swing on the rings by himself and climbing over the ladder completely unassisted. I was so proud of all the things he had to show me this morning on his parent viewing day. He's always loved the bubbles at the end too! Another exciting thing today was Schmoo's bike riding. I'm determined to get her going on her two wheeler this summer and so need to focus on spending time with her each evening. Today we went out and gave it a try on the front lawn (for padding). The grass proved to be too difficult, so I got her fully dressed in jeans and a sweater before taking her out on the road. She did great! We got going down a bit of our hill and she even rode a few meters on her own. I figure if I can keep it up with her now, that she'll be riding in no time! The highlight of the biking adventure was watching the herd of baby skunks cross the road just up the hill from us. We spent some time yesterday watching one of them snuffling around in our neighbour's yard, but today we got to see a whole crew of them looking for their mama.

Yesterday was a miserable day here. It rained consistently pretty much all day. Lightly in the morning when I trudged down to the park for boot camp and then heavier throughout the day. It did clear up in the evening, but my coach had already called for an indoor session, so after motivating myself to get going, I made it down to soccer a bit late. As always, I was happy to have gone...even scored a goal! A bunch of us went out after the game too, which was nice.

The kids had a great afternoon yesterday. Both of them had their own playdate. Schmoo was picked up from school by her friend D's mom, who took them both out to the local pizzeria for an end of school year lunch. She called later in the afternoon to ask if Schmoo could stay later, as the girls were having such a good time. Bean's playdate was a bit rockier. How quickly I forget how well Schmoo and Bean play together without parent attention. Bean and his friend T needed a bit more coaxing to find something to play together and Bean had a couple of possessive moments over his toys that we had to work through. In the end, after making up some banana chocolate chip muffins together, the boys seemed to find their groove together.

Airlie is having a grumpier week. She is definitely missing Nana, who was her constant companion for the last 6 weeks. Hopefully the sunnier skies ahead will mean more time outside for her. Papa and I have had a nice dinner together tonight, talking about the rest of the week's activities. Schmoo's school BBQ is tomorrow night and Bean's is on Thursday, so it's burgers for supper for the next two nights!

Fraser is so clever at his gymnastics. Tell him well done.
I bet the baby skunks looked great but let's hope they stay in your neighbours yard away from Airlie.
