Wonderful Weekend

This weekend has been all about what I love about summer. Hot summer sunshine, outdoor pursuits, happy frolicking children, visiting with friends. The heat has finally made an appearance here and I was sure to take full advantage of some sun time with the kids to enjoy a couple of our local parks. Yesterday we spent 3 hours at the local Lions' spray park while Papa worked hard in the yard, cutting the grass and tidying it up for our evening BBQ with friends. In true small town living style, we came across several friends at the park, so both the kids and I were entertained with company. I even got a chance to read of bit of my current Twilight read while we were out.
Our evening BBQ was a success too. Both kids had a sun-induced nap in the afternoon so were full of life and energy for the evening with their friends. We enjoyed good food, thanks to Papa, and good company until almost 10pm!

Today was another great summer day. A leisurely start to the morning and then the kids and I spent the day down at the park and beach, visiting with my friend J and her partner J who were on a road trip through Nelson today. They are visiting from Amsterdam and we had caught up last week when I was in Calgary. I encouraged them to give us a call when they were in town and they did! We had a great visit, just hanging out on the picnic blanket while the kids ran around. Again we found several local friends too, so enjoyed a picnic, some ice cream and some time down by the beach. Papa enjoyed a peaceful game of soccer at home and some time in his garden, removing weeds.

Tomorrow starts our summer routine. The kids are both of to their respective "summer camps" for the day while I work all day. I'm getting my work out of the way this week with a Monday / Tuesday work week. Then it's Canada Day on Wednesday and a few days off until I'm back to work next Monday. But first I'll have to tackle a 10km run in the morning at boot camp!
