Wow...what a weekend. We've been on the go for the last three days, without a pause. Or so it feels. It was a good weekend though. Filled with socializing and family time. The family time came with its usual dose of whiny, annoying children, but for the most part we had a successful overnight trip up the valley to Halcyon Hot Springs. We commented on our way back home today that it felt like it had been a long weekend, and we had only been away just over 24 hours. Our cabin at the resort was a perfect size with bed space for everyone. Papa got a snuggle with Schmoo on the sofa bed and I hunkered down with Bean in the second bedroom, while Nana got her own space. We had a glorious dip in the pool both yesterday and this morning before we headed off on a roundabout trip around Trout Lake, via Kaslo back home again. Our journey enabled us to see three different black bears, with the last one being out on the road in front of us. We also saw what looked like a newborn deer trotting along the highway looking for his mama. I think Airlie was the happiest out of everyone. She spent lots of time chasing sticks in the ice cold lake.

We tried many times on both drives to get the kids to sleep. It was right at the end that Schmoo finally gave in.
Our Friday night BBQ was a success too. Our friends C and K were there with their three kids (including baby E) and we invited a new family to join us. K and D are friends with C and K already and K does boot camp with me and D plays soccer with Papa, so it was a good fit. They have three kids too - 7, 3 and almost 2. So the kids had a blast. The highlight for Schmoo was E (the 7 year old) showing her some skipping tricks as she's on the local skipping team. The kids all ran around in the back yard until after 9pm like they had been friends since birth.
A busy week ahead. Grandma Lady is on her way back here tomorrow for a quick visit and then whisking me to Calgary on Wednesday for J's funeral service. Home by plane on Thursday only to turn around and fly back again with Nana on Saturday to bid her farewell as she returns to England. School is gearing down too, so Schmoo has lots of exciting school plans this week too. And with June drawing to a close it means Mama's first run at year end at work....yipes!
