It can only get better from here

So I had my first official soccer game last night. Our ladies night group has expanded and they've broken us up into 4 actual teams to play games this winter instead of the "training" sessions we did last winter. Last Monday we played a couple of games and then got split up, with our coach doing his best to help the teams be evenly distributed. No one likes to play against a stacked team, and so the hope was that the teams would be relatively equal.

Well yesterday was the first set of games. Let's just say, our team can only get better. It was a blow out. A 10-2 victory for Team 2. They were up 5-0 in the first 15 minutes, I think. So I think defense should be our first area of concern. It was still a lot of fun. Our whole team of 11 was there, so we didn't get too run down in the 50 minute game. After the game, a few of us stuck around to watch the second game and were comforted in that it too was a bit of a blow out. Not quite as extreme (9-4), but still one team definitely dominated. Watch this space to see how our team progresses over the coming weeks.

Schmoo was back on track at Rhythm Ropers yesterday, but it sounds like a lot of the older kids weren't. The H1N1 flu seems to be making its rounds through the junior high and high school in town so a large number of older kids weren't at practice. In fact, I've just received an email to say that practices for the rest of the week are cancelled to enable the kids to recover and not get worn down. And so it begins.....yipes! So far our school seems to be doing okay, as well as our family. Schmoo is suffering more with a molar that is pushing its way up, giving her a bit of a jaw ache.

I had another impromptu night out tonight. Our neighbour, S called me up to see if I wanted to go to see the local Ecosociety's showing of "The Age of Stupid". It's all about global warming and the rapid rate of decline of our environment. I'm still processing. I'm feeling a lot more worried. Needless to say it's given me lots of things to think about......
