Halloween has come and gone. The kids have been hyper today....spending most of the day sorting, categorizing and trading their candy with one another. It was a successful haul for Schmoo and Bean and already Papa and I are tired of hearing "can I have one more candy?"
Friday we managed to get the pumpkins carved and ready for Saturday's festivities. Bean threw us for a scare on Friday when he decided to put himself to bed at noon, complaining of a sore throat. We worried it was the flu, but an 1.5 hour snooze put him right back on track and he hasn't complained since. It meant I had to go to Schmoo's parent/teacher interview without Papa. It was a quick visit and Schmoo got rave reviews from her teacher. We're now tasked with 15 minutes a night of reading activities to get the reading ramped up.
Saturday was a full day of activity. We were all invited to a Halloween party at lunch time at a friend of Bean's from preschool. There were lots of other kids that we knew. I was inspired and even got dressed up myself....as David Beckham, complete with England jersey, soccer socks and arm tattoos! The kids filled themselves up with cupcakes and chips, foregoing any healthy food, of course.
We returned home to pick up Papa to head to our next destination, the mall. We met our friends C & S for a walk around the mall for some indoor trick-or-treating. It was great timing as the heavens opened in a torrential downpour while we were inside. We made it home and had some healthier dinner before Schmoo's friend E and her friend showed up to head out for our walk around the block. We were first on the path, home by 6:30pm and after a full assessment of the candy haul, both kids were in bed by 7:30pm. Papa even got dressed up for Halloween with his friend L, spending the evening watching the Flames play hockey on TV.
I was uninspired by an evening of hockey, so headed to work late to get my month end duties out of the way to free up my day today. It was a good choice, because the party next door was still going when I got home at 11:30pm. It also enabled me to have a nice nap this afternoon to catch up on my sleep lost thanks to the "tricks" of our neighbours and their music all night!
