Belle of the ball

Happy New Year!  Here we are at the start of a new decade.  The last decade has been a crazy one.  It's amazing to look back on the last 10 years and think about all the things that have happened, both happy and sad.  The last 10 years had a lot of new beginnings....puppy, wedding, homes, children, towns.  The next 10 years are going to be character building, I think.  At the end of this next decade there will be two teenagers living in my house.  It sends shivers down my spine.  There's lots to look forward to.  Papa will get three World Cups, one this year.  Bean will start school.  Papa and I will get a trip to Italy.  Maybe our family will even get to go on the world adventures that I dream for us.  Uncle C and Auntie S will tie the knot and maybe there'll be some new cousins!  Lots to look forward to.  And to think that in a couple of days the DuPonts will be home for a visit...what a great way to start the new year!

The end of 2009 was a busy one.  On a whim, I decided to treat myself to a trip to the beauty parlour to get my hair straightened and styled for our New Year's party.  Just like when I had it done in Las Vegas last year, it was worth every penny.  The kids could hardly keep their eyes and hands off me when I returned home.  Schmoo kept professing how beautiful I was and how much she LOVED my hair!  The compliments didn't stop there.  After a full afternoon of work (it was month end and all), I returned home for the quick transformation into Cinderella.  With my hair straight, my contacts in and all dressed up in a sexy black dress, most people at the party didn't even recognize me at first.  I had lots of compliments and felt great!  Papa got all dressed up too for the occasion, so we were a real hot couple!!

It was a great party.  We sat with some friends from the school and spent the night scoping the silent auction tables, chatting with friends and dancing to the live band.  My attempts to score a new electric toothbrush were thwarted by another buyer so we left empty handed at 12:30am after a glass of pink champagne and a toast to the new year.  It sounds like the new babysitter was a success.  They both asked to have her back when we talked to them in the morning.  I'm not sure what time they went to bed though, as they both rolled out of bed at 8:00am...and unheard of late hour for our children.

Today has been quiet.  We spent most of the day in our pj's, watching movies, colouring and snoozing.  At 3pm, I finally found some energy to bundle the kids up in their snowsuits and head out into the fresh snow for a nice walk.  It was beautiful out.  We headed down the hill with Bean in the toboggan and Schmoo running with Airlie.  The walk down was happier than the walk back up, but luckily there was a last hill down to our house that I pulled both kids down in the toboggan, much to their delight.  We returned for a gourmet pasta dinner a la Papa and a quiet night.  So we're heading into the weekend now, even though it feels like Sunday already.  Papa and I have another night out planned tomorrow and hopefully some more skiing on Sunday before we're back to business on Monday!!
