Plans for a good night's sleep ruined by a stupid dog

So I didn't post last night as I was eager to get to bed. I'm battling one of my monster headaches and was feeling exhausted by 9:30pm so Papa and I headed off to bed in hopes of an early night. It had been a relatively busy day. Gym in the morning and the a picnic lunch down at the big park, just me and the kids. It was one of the few times we were down there that we didn't run into someone we knew. Schmoo was eager to try out the sliding pole as she had figured out how to do it at the smaller park we were at on Monday evening. She did a great job sliding down and spent a large portion of her time there doing it over and over again. We came home and both kids napped again, which meant a later bedtime again. In order to tone down the usual early evening hysteria, I took Schmoo grocery shopping, leaving Bean to potter around in the garden with Papa.

But I digress.....so at 11:30pm the dog started pacing around our room. With her recent bouts of runny bum, I nudged Papa and told him to let her out. It was windy out as well, so who really knows what was causing her to pace. Well, she hit the deck barking and I immediately knew we were in trouble. When she didn't immediately return to the back door, I went out on the deck and found her rolling around in the grass. SKUNK! Grrr....the situation did not make for a happy Mama, who was tired and fighting a headache. Papa headed out to 7-11 to try and get some hydrogen peroxide for the magical deskunking potion, but returned empty handed. The wind was picking up and we knew it was going to rain so he brought the kennel in the front hall and locked her up. The wind, of course, set her off and she spent the rest of the night trying to get out....but of course we weren't letting her. So Papa slept downstairs and nobody got any sleep. Plus Bean came and got me at 4am wanting a pee....I think I had finally drifted off for 15 minutes.
So today was a bit of a grumpy day. I explained this to both kids when I got up in the morning and had to shuttle them off to Wal-Mart to buy the necessary supplies to wash the dog. Airlie spent the day out on the back deck, leashed up to avoid any more grass rolling and I managed to bathe her twice - once with the deskunking mix and then later with some dog shampoo. I don't think she got hit as badly as she did last summer, so it's only the top of her head that still kind of smells. The kids, of course, thought it was funny watching me hose and wash her down.
Auntie E and Uncle R came over with the kids around lunchtime for a visit. They took turns going into town for different appointments, while the other one stayed with the kids. Both of my kids had a huge nap this afternoon. Both of them woke up around 5pm, ready to go, so after their supper I loaded them up in the van and took them down to the soccer fields to watch what would be Papa's final soccer game of the season. Schmoo was excited to go for a car ride as I had bought her new booster seat for the car. She's big enough now for the next size of car seat and she was pretty proud to try it out. The kids had a great time running around down at the fields. We met up with some other families who were there watching so Schmoo and her friend Z were running everywhere. Bean had a fun playing with Z's older brother T too. I packed them up and brought them home at 8:15pm and had them tucked into bed by 9pm. Here's hoping that tonight is much less eventful.
