One of the great things about Schmoo's school is the regular family oriented events. Back in September there was the welcome BBQ. They also host regular family movie nights where they put up white sheets in the gym and play a G-rated movie by donation. With a full service kitchen available, they sell popcorn, hot dogs and other snacks, all with the intent of raising money for the school. The kids love it. They get to wear their pyjamas, bring their sleeping bags and pillows and set themselves up with their friends for 2 hours to watch the movie. The parents come too and sit on the chairs around the perimeter of the gym, or snuggle down on the floor with their kids.
Tonight was our first family movie night. The first one this year was when we were away in Cowtown, so Schmoo was eager to go to this one. The movie choice was a good one too - Wall-E, the latest movie on video by Disney. The kids have actually seen it, funnily enough when we were in Cowtown with Team Indi, but were pretty excited about seeing it again. They've been talking about it all week and part of the preparations for the movie was the discussion about them having a nap in the afternoon in order to be able to stay up late. They both managed to have a big long nap so thankfully there was no incident around whether one of them had to stay home due to a lack of nap. We headed off at 6pm and were one of the first families to arrive, so the kids changed spots about a dozen times based on new people coming into the gym. In the end, Schmoo set herself up with 3 other girls from her class and although it seemed like she spent most of the movie talking or moving around, she professed what a great time she had at the end of it all. Bean was a bit more restless. Despite his nap, he was still pretty tired at the end and spent most of the movie changing positions on my lap.
The rest of the day was all about getting ready for movie night. Schmoo went to school. Bean and I went to the gym....at long last! It felt great to get my body moving again after 3 weeks away from my regular gym pursuits. We had a lovely lunch at home and a nice quiet afternoon. The rest of the weekend has lots of activity in store with our usual Saturday running around to dancing and soccer and then it's date night for Mama and Papa!
