Lazy, hazy summer days

Ahhhh, summertime. The heat, the water, the long, lazy days. This first week has been great. I have to admit I've lost all track of time when it comes to the actual day of the week now. With the Canada Day holiday smack in the middle of the week this year, I'm totally off kilter. Today felt like Sunday and it's only Friday! I'm enjoying an extra long weekend this week, after wrapping up the month of June at work on Tuesday night. That has meant two lazy days with the kids with two more to go with Papa this weekend.

So we're on the park circuit. Yesterday we spent the day at the local Lions spray park with our regular gaggle of friends. It was C's 6th birthday so we even got to have homemade cake in the park. Tomorrow is his birthday party and this year it's big kids only (otherthan his little sister H, of course). The kids had a great time frolicking in the park, playground and sprinklers. There were the odd moments of disgruntled children, but for the most part they were all happy. Schmoo managed to see three of her kindergarten buddies as well. We finished the afternoon off with a group outing across town to the Dairy Queen. I overestimated the waffle cone for Bean and had to actually ask the girl behind the counter to STOP as she filled the mammoth cone up with soft serve ice cream. At least I was able to convince him that he didn't need to eat the whole thing!

The biggest treat yesterday was the return of the Duponts! They took the long way from Utah, spending some time in Cowtown with friends and family before making it home. They rolled up the driveway just in time for a BBQ supper and playtime in the backyard. Everyone was happy to see everyone. The kids played and hugged. The adults chatted and hugged. And then they stayed overnight, so we got to do it all again in the morning. It's nice to have them back for the summer.

Today was a bit more fragmented. Cousin time in the morning and then a playdate for Schmoo. Bean and I dropped her off and then headed off for our own mom and boy playdate. We did some jobs, had lunch at the mall and then hit the outdoor pool. I had called one set of friends to come and meet us to help Bean feel like he was getting a playdate too. He ended up just floating around with me and sitting on the bench snacking....funny boy. Schmoo got dropped off at the pool to meet us so we hung around for another hour before returning home. She managed to find a different set of three kindergarten buddies at the pool today. The joys of small town living.

The weekend looks to be exciting. Schmoo has C's birthday party in the morning and then we're headed over the orange bridge for some backyard camping at another friend's house tomorrow night! The birthday party for Schmoo means a tram ride for Bean!
