I'm home...with Bean. Our trip back today from Fort St John was relatively painless. Certainly much less involved than the trip out with Auntie E and her two kids (and Schmoo) last Thursday. I must suffer a brain freeze about a week or so after I get home from travelling with my kids that makes me think that it would be fun to do again. And so I find myself travelling with them again. Don't get me wrong, the trip was worth it. There were moments of time when I got to speak to my extended family (mostly at the wedding from about midnight to 5am, when my kids were safely tucked in bed back at the hotel).
There were also the Kodak moments that I was hoping for - the kids running around carefree at the ranch with their cousins, Bean wading in the hip-high wet grass picking wild strawberries, Schmoo learning how to swim without touching under the direction of two older cousins.

But there sure were a lot of trying moments....the tired, cranky, hungry kids that push and push and push. And when there's no second parent to help juggle the load, it can get pretty tiring.
Anyways, we're back. Schmoo is now on her week's holiday with Grandma Lady. Bean is home with his Mama and Papa for the week and on Saturday we'll head up to Golden to meet up with them to bring Schmoo home. It was great to all be together as the Mink family this weekend. Grandma Lady decorated the hotel room with Mickey Mouse paraphenalia to make it seem like we were at Disneyland. We got in lots of cousin time and some two-stepping on the dancefloor. It was great to see Uncle C and S, who arrived on Saturday...eventually, after a bit of a delay in Vancouver. I know that everyone is still travelling now, as I write. C & S are on their way back to Cowtown, Grandma Lady and Schmoo are headed for a hotel about halfway home, Auntie E was meeting Uncle R in Vancouver to drive south to a funeral.....I hope everyone is safe.
We had a quiet week ahead. It will be nice to have some alone time with Bean, but I anticipate that I will quickly realize the benefits of two children who entertain one another instead of requiring my constant attention. For now, I'm looking forward to me bed by 8pm and hope the neighbours will be kind to me with their noise levels tonight.
