Happy Mother's Day

It was a beautiful day to celebrate. The sun shone, the skies were clear. An airplane from Cowtown was able to land safely with Papa and Nana on board. After three long days of travel, Nana arrived with a bright smile for everyone. The kids were both excited to see her, greeting her with big hugs and smiley faces. I had a nice morning with the kids, despite the 5:30am start. Obviously the new blackout blinds in their rooms didn't do the trip. Although Bean spent the night snuggled in with me. He seemed unbothered by the sporatic loud music that permeated our walls throughout the night. I managed to take them both successfully to church to get my Mother's Day carnation.

Once Nana and Papa arrived home, we enjoyed a family lunch together and after a quick trip to the store for a few necessities for dinner, the girls settled in for a nice long nap while the boys watched their shows (soccer for Papa, a movie for Bean). Papa cooked up a glorious rack of lamb supper for us all to enjoy. Schmoo spent some time out in the garden with Papa, whereas Bean was moody and ready for bed, so after a bath and a story, we snuggled down in his bed together. Schmoo had a great time outside, lying in the hammock being quiet with Papa, listening to the squirrels chatter and making up stories about what Airlie was saying when she barked at a dog that walked by.

Our day yesterday was nice too. After a family breakfast at our local coffee shop (yes, Auntie V the patio is open!!), Papa headed to the airport and the rest of us headed to the soccer fields for Schmoo's Saturday morning game. She did well again, chasing around after the ball. We brought her friend Z home with us. A strategy that worked out well for me, enabling me to spend the afternoon cleaning the house for Nana's arrival while the three of them made mudpies in the backyards. Both kids were exhausted after a day out in the sunshine, so they were in bed early and I enjoyed some takeaway from the local hotel / pub and watched "Bride Wars".

So tomorrow kicks off the birthday week. We've got lots of exciting plans for the week, on top of our regular slew of activities. Thank goodness it will all be over on Friday afternoon so we can enjoy a quiet and unplanned long weekend.
