We had a great long weekend. The weather was warmer than as of late, but not hot like I would have liked. After Saturday's home and gardening day, Sunday was a good day for a road trip. We loaded everyone in the van and headed up the lake for a day of fun at May Days! Schmoo was persistent in her requests to phone a "friend" to meet us there and her questioning about whether there would be "any other kids". What luck that we ran into K and his family right after we arrived at the playground. I knew they were thinking of going and had kind of hoped for the best that we would run into eachother. We spent the next couple of hours just hanging out together around the playground, eating hot dogs, popsicles and french fries (not in that order). Schmoo even had a try on the climbing wall.
Towards the end of the afternoon we wandered down the field to watch some of the logger sports that were going on. It was amazing to watch them carve off 2 inch slices of wood with their chainsaws or scale a 100 foot tree to ring a can at the top and then slide down to hit the mat first. Both kids were entralled and Schmoo was disappointed when we decided to pack up and head home before the log roll competition. I was mostly amazed by this 3 year old little boy that was having a great time chopping a log with his own axe!
We managed to get the kids home and tucked into bed without a major meltdown and have our own surf and turf dinner a la Papa before he and I went into town to see "Angels and Demons" with our friends U & L.
Holiday Monday was another outside day. We had a late start, but managed a wander along Main Street before picking up some sandwiches and heading down to the big park for the afternoon. The kids played on the park and Bean happily took Nana for his first ride of the season on the tram. I tried to get Schmoo to give her two-wheeler bike another try, but she was too distracted by a group of girls she knew that were playing together down by the beach. I'm really starting to see how important friends are becoming to her. We did run into C & S, with their Mama, Grandma and Baby E as we were leaving so opted for some time at the beach with them instead of quiet time at home. They showed great creativity when there was no buckets to haul water, using the empty chip bag instead!
Today it was back to the grind. A long day for everyone, but a short week ahead.
