Hibernating

This time of year always encourages hibernating. The days are short. In fact we're in the darkest couple of weeks now with the shortest day approaching on Dec 20th. Being an avid sleeper, that means I'm even more keen to snooze. So today I took advantage of a snuggly son and had a nice long nap with him. Schmoo had a big snooze too. That meant kids with lots of energy at supper time and later into the evening, but that was okay. We're working hard right now, our little family. This new work/school routine takes lots of energy so it's important to catch up when we can, right? Papa certainly wasn't surprised to come home from work and find the three of us still snoozing.

The day did have its moments of productivity. My morning flew by and felt rushed. It feels hard to get things accomplished on my short days. I'm really looking forward to the time that I can easily get things done in my alloted half day and not have a pile of things on my to do list at work. I picked up Schmoo and headed to Sears to peruse the ovens on offer. We're moving the oven from the suite up to one of our rental units so are now looking for a fresher model. Schmoo was happy to flip through the pages of the Sears Wish Book Catalogue, picking out some things she was interested in. We picked up Bean and headed to the bakery for lunch. It was PACKED and we were lucky to get a table to eat our pizza. Schmoo made her way through two pieces of pizza today. After the first one, she went up and waited in line all by herself to buy a second piece. Bean of course was just focussed on the gingerbread man that he got to eat after the pizza.

We made our way down the main street after lunch with a few goals in mind. A birthday present for Baby R was one so we stopped in the toy store for a look around. It was a good exercise in patience for the kids and it gave me some ideas for their Christmas gifts, which I have to admit has had me stumped. Next stop was the post office. Our packages to Nana and Grandma Lady are now in the hands of the world wide postal service. Let's hope they make it to their destinations in time. Our day out was cut short when Schmoo knocked over a huge Christmas card display, sending ALL of the cards spilling on the floor. The lady at the post office was really good about it. We just scooped up all the cards and they took them in the back to resort them, but Schmoo was pretty embarassed and wanted to go home, so home we went.

I made it out to the gym tonight after the kids' supper time. It felt great. Especially since I haven't been since Friday, having taking a "lazy pass" on Monday night from soccer. I returned to the kids happily playing Go Fish in Schmoo's room. Bedtime was smooth and easy. It's so nice when the kids are amiable and we can just snuggle up and have a nice talk about the day. Another long day ahead tomorrow!

Hard to believe that Christmas is Less than 2 weeks away when I stroll along the beach with my toes in the ocean every day.
