The Birthday Week Begins

And what a start! Today was a real treat. Since I worked on Saturday to do the month end, it meant I could take today off. With both kids organized to stay at school for a long day, I coordinated my efforts with my friend D and we headed up to the local hill for the day! What a treat it was to wake up this morning to find 5cm of fresh fallen powder on the ground. No sunny skies, but fresh snow is even better. We signed up for their Monday lift, lesson and lunch package and each enjoyed a private lesson as we were the only ones signed up. It was great to ski with an instructor for 2 hours, getting tips along the way. She even pushed me outside of my comfort zone and had me skiing moguls (the bumps)! It was hard work in the new snow, but it felt great.

We met back at the lodge for a gourmet lunch which ended up putting us over the edge. After a busy morning on the slopes, the rich and heavy lunch did not sit well with either D or me. We managed a couple of runs together after lunch and then I snuck in a couple of more, before my head started throbbing, my gut started aching and my thighs started screaming. Luckily D had to be back in town at 2:30pm to pick up her son, so we had an excuse to call it quits for the day.

Back at home, with no kids to pick up until after 4pm, I crawled into bed and tried to have a snooze. My body wasn't having it though. Coming down off the mountain had obviously thrown me for a loop as I ended up spending an hour in bed with my ears ringing. I crawled out of bed at 4pm and made my rounds around town - to the grocery store for Bean's preschool snack tomorrow, to pick up Bean and then to pick up Schmoo. Poor Schmoo, she was so excited this morning about finally getting to stay late with the big kids and of course, there was only one big kid...and he was only in Grade One. She put on a very happy, brave (yet tired) face though. We had talked earlier in the day about how if she wasn't cranky when I picked her up, that I would consider letting her stay late with the big kids again another day.

We ended up having a lovely transition back home. The sushi was ready to go, so we all sat together while the kids ate their dinner. Papa was busy down in the suite doing something....top secret, so he says. Bean helped me organize the snack for tomorrow and both kids happily went to bed. Schmoo got to read her new book that she won at school today for entering her name in the book reading competition last week.

With the kids in bed and my head still throbbing, I really struggled with the decision to go to soccer or not. In the end, Papa convinced me to go for the drills and then decide whether to stay for the game. Well, like always, I'm so glad I went! I was a bit slow warming up, but when we started playing the game, I found my groove. For once I was on the winning side and even contributed 4 (that's right FOUR) goals to our 7-1 victory! I was flying high! I ended up sitting around with a bunch of the group until after 9:30pm while the men's team played. I've returned home to a quiet house and a little bit of energy left to do the blog. Who knows what tomorrow holds in this exciting birthday week?!!
