Time with my boy

There was definitely something in the air today. Friday the 13th here was full of frustrations. The kids were up at 5:45am, full of beans and ready to go. They wouldn't stay in their rooms for anything until their usual 7am and even after Papa got up, they continued to push and test their limits. It certainly made for a grumpy start to Mama's day. I did finally get them organized and out the door in time to get Schmoo to school for 9am. She was flying high, excited about finally receiving her Valentine's Day cards (as well as giving) and her planned playdate at D's house after school. She hardly looks back when I drop her off at school, so confident.

Bean and I headed down the hill to the rec centre. He was eager to go to the "exercise place" today. He packed himself half a dozen stuffies in a plastic bag to bring along. I had already told him that we were going swimming afterwards, so I think that was extra incentive. I got him organized and myself changed for class only to discover that in my haste to get ready this morning, I had forgotten my gym shoes. Thank goodness for Papa who works at home on Fridays and who was happy to drop everything to deliver them to me so that I wouldn't be totally irritated for the whole day. I had a good class and then retrieved Bean for our swimming date. We met up with another friend and his 3 year old, S to swim around with. S's brother I is in Schmoo's kindergarten class. Bean had a great swim. I even managed to get him away from the steps where he usually likes to spend most of his time. A soak in the hot tub finished us off before we changed and headed to the bakery for lunch. It's so amazing how nice it is to spend time with just one child at a time. We even stopped at the second hand bookstore after lunch for a quick meander through the aisles.

Back home for a bit of quiet time. I thought for sure Bean would sleep after his early morning and swim, but alas, he did not. Instead he spent most of the hour sneaking out of his room. He went for a rummage in our bed, leaving the nightstand light on as evidence of his visit. When I finally went to get him, his door was open and he was nowhere to be found. Schmoo's bedroom door was conspicuously shut and when I opened it, there he was sat in the middle of her bed with the duvet over top of him. It took about a minute before he slowly pulled the blanket back and peeked out with his mischievious grin. I think he's going to push my limits a lot this little boy.

We went to the grocery store before heading over to D's house to pick up Schmoo. She had a great afternoon and after a quick stop at Wal-Mart to buy a birthday present for her friend C's party tomorrow, we headed home. She spread out all her Valentine's cards and gave us the commentary on it all. She was most impressed, of course, with the items from her big buddies. Supper was uneventful and the kids got to have some TV time before bed. The rest of our evening has been quiet - pizza and a movie - the best kind of home date night!
