So here's the recap....
Thursday was my actual birthday. It was a funny sort of day. The kids were up at 6am and eager to lavish me with their bag of gifts. I was hardly even awake before they had the bedside light on, demanding I open their cards and gifts. Then it was off to work for an hour, then off to gymnastics with Bean. Back to work for an hour and a half, then off for lunch at the bakery with Papa. Back to work for another hour, only to finish early because there's wasn't really anything pressing for me to be doing. I picke up the kids early in hopes they would have a nap and then we could go out....a movie, to watch Papa play soccer, there were a few ideas kicking around....but Bean didn't sleep, so we didn't go out. Instead Schmoo and I went into town and picked up Peter Pan - Return to Neverland and pizza for supper. I ate with the kids and then after Bean went to bed, Schmoo and I snugged up on the couch to watch her movie. It was cozy! Papa went to his Thursday night soccer game and I went out to my regular Thursday night group when he got home. Funny story there.....at first there was only me and one other person. About an hour later, the third woman in our group showed up and said she had been out for birthday dinner....it was her birthday too! My other birthday gift was pretty special. Of course the big gift is my upcoming trip to Vegas with some friends, but Papa had spent a whole half day down in Grandma Lady's kitchen making me 8 individual meat pies! He even made the pastry from scratch. Talk about a gift from the heart!
Friday was full of activity. With the scratch in my throat, I almost decided to opt out of the gym. In the end we dropped of Schmoo after the school bell and hustled down for the 9:15am class. I actually felt a bit better for going. After a pit stop for a muffin, Bean and I headed to Schmoo's school to read to her class. First we read one of her favourite stories and then I sat with all of the kids, one at a time, so they could read their junior reader books to me. We returned home for lunch. I snuck away at 2pm for my 1.5 hour birthday massage. It was heavenly. It's actually a tough situation because it's my good friend D who is the massage therapist and I always am tempted to chat the whole time instead of relaxing and enjoying the massage. I returned home to help with dinner and baths before I picked up the babysitter for Mama and Papa's night out. We enjoyed the new Renee Zellweger / Harry Connick Jr movie in town and then made our way up to the new wine bar for a cheese and meat platter and homemade soup. It was a great night out.
The weekend was full of activity, mostly for Schmoo. Papa took her to soccer in the morning on Saturday and Bean and I enjoyed a home day. I rummaged through his closets and weeded out all the clothes that he's grown out of. Baby R is going to have a big basket of clothes to take home when we see him next! After quiet time, Schmoo and I went down to the rec centre to take advantage of the free public skating. She did great! For the second time on skates, she was moving around the rink pretty good. There were lots of little tumbles, but at the end she was full of enthusiasm to go back again another day!
Saturday night was my girls' night out with D and C. I met them in town for drinks (yummy raspberry mojitos), dinner and then D and I stayed our for some dancing. We ended up mostly just having a good laugh at all the people in the nightclub! Home at 1:30am to enjoy the party music next door for the rest of the night. I was so tired I did finally fall asleep, but I think it kept Papa up most of the night!
Today was skiing day. After my ski day last Monday, I had booked Schmoo for her next lesson. I had a slow start, but we managed to make it up to the hill just in time for her 12:00 lesson. Exciting news today - her instructor took her up the chairlift! I had been priming her all week to go up the lift, so she was pretty positive about going up. I visited with some friends in the lodge and then spent the last 20 minutes sitting in the sunshine on the deck, watching for her to come down. She was doing great and I managed to catch her on video a little bit too! We went in the lodge for some lunch and then I splurged on a half day ticket to take her up the chairlift again. It was a bit of a struggle coming down. Like most new things with her mother, she whined and complained for a lot of the way down. But we did manage to get some successful turns in and even went over a couple of jumps together. By the end of the run we were both exhausted though and ready to head home.
We returned to a glorious pork roast dinner a la Papa and then his master creation for my birthday - homemade profiteroles! Papa and Bean have been busy all weekend putting them together. We all loved them! The kids have gone to bed now and I'm catching up on the computer before hopefully an early night! It has been a wonderful birthday week! What a spoiled girl I am thanks to all my friends and family.
