A day of leisure

My days of leisure are about to become few and far between once Schmoo and Bean start their respective school schedules in the fall. This past year of "Fridays" has been a real treat - having a full day to myself to move at my own rhythm. Today was one of the nicer ones, with no real plans or commitments. I got the kids to daycare for 9am and then headed off to the gym for a good workout. I hadn't been since Tuesday and it felt like it had been a week since I last went. I came home with intentions of driving out to the valley to see Auntie E, but our wires got crossed and I ended up staying in town. Instead I enjoyed a long, leisurely lunch with my husband...what a treat. We ate a nice pub meal together and then wandered up the road to have a couple of things framed - our recent family portrait as well as the number tiles that came with our house last, but no frame. We spent a fair amount of time with the frame shop owner talking about Australia, as he is originally from New Zealand but had spent 12 years in Australia. It's always fun to tell those kinds of people Bean's name and where it comes from.

We returned home so Papa could finish his work and I could have a nice long nap. Well, a medium sized nap as Airlie decided to start scratching at the bedroom door when the wind came up again. Poor dog, she gets wiggier every day. I picked up the kids from daycare and headed home for a reasonably good dinnertime. Papa was still in town at the optometrist having contact lenses fitted and returned home after the kids were fed and bathed. They settled in to watch a couple of shows before bedtime and I headed over to my friend D's house to watch her kids, C & H so they could go on a date night. We've started to try and do some babysitting swaps to reduce the cost of a night on the town. I put her kids to bed and then settled in with my bookkeeping textbook at their kitchen table. I returned home to a quiet house. Papa's alarm is set for an early start as he plans to get up and seal coat the driveway in the morning. Grandma Lady's bags are packed for her next trip to our neck of the woods, so we will be eagerly awaiting her arrival tomorrow evening.
