The Activities
Today started much better. Schmoo was excited to get moving this morning as she knew she had a play date after school with her friend M. Bean was excited to get moving so we could go to gymnastics. Bean also wanted to wear his underpants AND did a pee in the potty before we left the house. A good start.
The morning was great. I dropped off Schmoo and we headed to gymnastics. Bean had a great class, no potty accidents and even went for a pee in the bathroom at gymnastics. We went to the gym next. He ate his snacks, I went for a run, then he went for another pee on the potty. We headed to the mall and picked up the "big chocolates" which will be his treats for doing a poo on the potty. We spent some time in the bookstore, looking at Thomas books. We went for lunch at A&W. Bean had chicken dippers and fries and I talked to a friend that had just returned from Mexico. We came home and he had a lovely hour playing trains and enjoying the quiet of the house. Auntie E arrived to put cousin I down for a nap and have a visit before her haircut. More pees on the potty and an easy transition to bed for quiet time.
And then Schmoo came home....obviously VERY VERY TIRED. Cousin I woke up from her nap and Bean wasn't asleep so called from his room when he heard her. And then the crazy children turned on me. Schmoo spent the next hour in hysterics, not happy to be by herself, even more hysterical to be around Bean and Cousin I. Bean got frustrated too - overtired from two days without a nap. Cousin I just wandered around happily. Just when things were starting to get better, Auntie E and Uncle R returned and took Cousin I home. The kids started to settle down. We made cupcakes for our mother's group tomorrow. They ate pizza for dinner and some sanity was restored.
Who are these crazy creatures that seem to turn on me in an instant? I left them bathed and content on the couch watching Babar when I headed out for dinner with some friends. A belated birthday dinner...chocolate cake and all. I even walked home from town under the clear starry skies. Cold, but beautiful. I've returned to a quiet house - everyone's asleep.
Thoughts on the Day
I had such a great morning with Bean. He's such a joy to be with when he's all by himself. He was so proud of all his potty action today. I hope we're really getting on a roll now. We've still got a big hurdle - the poo - but even getting the pees in order is a good thing.
