Family Day

The Activities

The sun shone today and we had a great family day today. The kids were up early, but enjoyed a carefree early morning watching shows while Mama and Papa got to snooze. The joke was on us as I discovered when I went to change Bean. He had a suspicious pink icing lingering around his mouth. The cheeky boy had helped himself to the last Valentine's cupcake that was in a container on the counter.

Papa made pancakes for breakfast and then Schmoo and I headed off to church. She wasn't interested in going downstairs with the other kids today and did really well staying upstairs for the whole mass. She brought some books with her and only started to get fidgety at the end. We went and did some quick grocery shopping and then I took her out for lunch. I thought is would be nice for us to have some more one-on-one time together. She obviously wasn't hungry after her pancake breakfast, as she didn't eat much of her grilled cheese sandwich. We had a nice time though. We talked about my upcoming holiday and about the cruise. Then she practiced doing some of her letters on some paper I had in my purse.

We headed home and got the boys to go swimming. Both kids were keen and we had a great time splashing around. Schmoo is very confident now with her life jacket on, which is great. Bean is still mostly content to just sit on the leisure pool steps and play with some water toys. We did end up chasing eachother around the "river" in the leisure pool though, which was fun. And of course, it is always nice to have a soak in the hot tub at the end.

We came home and Papa headed out with Airlie for a walk down at the beach while the sun was still up. I made popcorn and the kids settled in to watch the rest of "Cars" that Bean had started watching earlier in the day. Papa made pizza for the kids and they had fun playing "house" under some forts they made using the dining room chairs. It was an early night to bed, with Bean having no nap today and Schmoo having a full and active day.

Schmoo's Favourite Part and Not Favourite Part of the Day

Favourite - going swimming
Not Favourite - when Papa put her head under the waterfall at the pool and got water in her eyes

Thoughts on the Day

What a treat to have a bit of a sleep-in today. It's not a really sleep, with the kids moving around the front room, but they are pretty content to watch TV for a bit in the morning. It was nice to spend some time with Schmoo today on my own today too. I'm conscious that I get lots of one-on-one opportunities with Bean now that she is in preschool and not so many with her. It's nice to have church on Sundays together, but the lunch afterwards was nice to actually talk about things. We had fun talking about how tricky Bean was this morning when he helped himself to a cupcake without asking. That's one of their big differences - she is a rule follower and will always ask, whereas he won't. Schmoo was very cuddly today. It was nice to see her happy self back in action. Both kids don't seem too worried about me going away this week. Schmoo is excited about getting to sleep with her Papa and hopefully she'll be a good helper for him.
