Happy Birthday Mama

The Activities

Well, you would have thought that it was Schmoo or Bean's birthday today. They were both up at the crack of dawn and eager to get the party started. After trying to get them to go back (or stay in their rooms at least) until 6.30am, they came and gave me their present that they had wrapped with Papa last night while I was out. There was a beautiful card drawn by Schmoo and a new candle and tub of gum. They both gave me a nice snuggle in my bed too.

Our morning started with a trip to the gym. Schmoo wasn't so keen, but seemed happy enough when she got settled. I forgot my purse, so our planned trip to the grocery store didn't happen when Schmoo put up a fuss about going home and then back out again. They both knew that our friends C & H were coming for lunch, so she wanted to be at home to wait for them. This meant that we had slim pickings for the Mamas to eat for lunch. C & H and their mom arrived around noon and we had peanut butter sandwiches (except Bean who had grilled cheese) and chocolate cupcakes that D had made. My original plan to get take out Thai food didn't happen when I called and found out that the restaurant is closed for holidays. So instead we had a gourmet egg on toast and fruit smoothie lunch instead.

Schmoo must have caught my crankies from yesterday as she spent most of the morning and her friends' visit being cranky and difficult to deal with. After lunch we all got on our snow gear and went out in the backyard to play. The play date unravelled quickly with Schmoo's bad mood and C & H were soon on their way home so that Schmoo and Bean could have quiet time. I did manage to get Schmoo to settle down in her room, after a long shouting match and several removed toys. She even had a nap - two days in a row. Bean settled quickly for his nap.

On a side note, Bean had two successful pees on the potty today!

Auntie E and the gang arrived during quiet time for their visit. The roads were terrible today so they decided to stay for a sleepover. Uncle R had to work at the college and Papa was scheduled to go and play soccer, so I made Auntie E and I a nice warm chicken salad for dinner and chocolate cake for dessert, of course. We had singing with the kids before they went to bed and we all had the leftover cupcakes from lunch time. Schmoo was up late again, rummaging in her room since she had a nap today. Baby R had his usual fussy period while we watched a movie and Uncle R managed to help settle him down with some Dada time when he got back from work.

I managed to catch a few "winks" with Schmoo this afternoon so of course now I can't sleep. It's way past midnight.

Schmoo's Favourite and Not Favourite Parts of the Day

Favourite - Mama's birthday
Not Favourite - when she was cranky and when she hurt her finger

Thoughts on the Day

It was a nice day, despite Schmoo's miserable mood. She was much happier at dinner time (after a nap) and played really well with cousin I. She even said she was sorry to me for being so cranky and not listening. I love how she says to me "when I'm cranky, Mama, I still love you". She gets this from me as I often tell her that I still love her, even when I'm angry.

Papa successfully got me some fun gifts from the kids and Airlie. Airlie gave me a new exercise jacket that Schmoo had given me a hint about earlier in the day. Of course my big birthday gift is my trip to the Big Smoke later this month on my own. There's still some birthday activites planned for the week. Papa has something up his sleeve for tomorrow night and we're planning a date night on Thursday. I had lots of well wishes today and unfortunately missed every phone call except the one from Grandma Lady.
A special mention to Team Indi who sent the Grey's Anatomy Trivia game. We didn't play it tonight, but I'm looking forward to taking it to the Big Smoke to play with my friends there!
