The Activities
Today's main event was the Super Bowl. Papa seems to watch only one American football game a year, and that's the Super Bowl. This year saw the New York Giants against the unbeaten New England Patriots. He was extra excited to watch because the NY Giants are "his" team. We had an early start to the day. Papa got up with the kids so he could watch soccer. It was a gorgeous sunny day - a welcome break after all the snow this week. With a flat tire on the van, I decided that Schmoo and I would walk to church this morning. It was a glorious walk. We talked the whole way there about all kinds of things, including all the things that we would pray for and that we were thankful for.
We returned home to Papa cleaning up the house. After lunch (and some of the candy necklaces from yesterday's birthday parties), I attempted to get the kids to nap. Our friends were due to come over for supper and evening playdates are always happier when the kids have a nap during the day. Neither one would sleep so at 2:30pm, the nap was abandoned and they both came out of their rooms to play. They managed to aggravate one another quickly. Something that doesn't actually happen very often, so they spent some more time in their rooms playing alone until our friends arrived. Their kids were just waking up from falling asleep in the car after their skiing afternoon, so it took a bit for them to warm up to our kids running around like crazy people. We all ended up having a great time. The kids played well and the adults managed to watch the football game. Well, the men watched it all and the women watched enough. It was an exciting game, right down to the last minute of play.
The kids went to bed later than usual and after Papa and I cleaned up we watched "The Seven Year Itch" with Marilyn Monroe. Well, I watched it and Papa slept on the couch beside me.
Schmoo's Favourite and Not Favourite Parts of the Day
Favourite - walking to and from church in the sunshine
Not Favourite - when Bean accidentily hit Mama's glass and it broke on the floor
Thoughts on the Day
As I write this, I can hear Bean fussing in his room. His sleep really is disrupted when he doesn't get a nap in the afternoon, poor guy, but I can tell that he's becoming more and more resistant to having a nap. The kids had fun with their friends C & S tonight. It's nice now that they are at an age where they play independently without us having to entertain or lead their play. We still have to keep an ear open for minor disputes, but for the most part they play well together. It's nice to have some friends now that we get together with socially as families too.
