The Birthday Fun Continues

The Activities

So I've got two days to recap today. We were home late last night and I didn't get a chance to sit down at the computer. The birthday fun really does continue. Last night, Papa organized a surprise dinner for us with three other couples. I knew we were going out, but didn't know where or for what. It was a lovely evening. One couple didn't know the others, but being a small town there was quickly a connection. We ate at the new steak and seafood restaurant down by the lake and it was great. I'm definitely off my points counting this week. The day time was pretty busy. Preschool in the morning for Schmoo, gymnastics for me and Bean and a playdate afterwards for Bean and his friend F. Bean started to get a fever in the afternoon and went to bed feeling pretty warm. He seemed better this morning, but has been fighting it most of the day and not quite himself. Schmoo has got the "coughs" but seems okay otherwise.

Today ended up being a home day. With Bean feeling under the weather, I thought it wasn't a good idea to head off to our usual mother's group. Plus I think we were all ready for a lazy morning around the house. The weather started off snowy (I think Papa had to clear a full foot of snow off the driveway before he left for work) and I ended up clearing some more, plus digging out the end of the driveway where the city's plows had left a big burm. I took the kids outside for an hour and in that time the day turned from snowy to sunny and the temperature warmed right up. It made for perfect snowman snow, so we managed to make a small snowman in the backyard, while the dog ran around, before Bean got fed up and cried to come inside.

We had a quiet afternoon. Bean went for a nice long nap (after his first pee on the potty for the day) and Schmoo hung out with me. Auntie E came by with her kids on her way to a playdate, so cousin I and Schmoo watched some Dora together. They came back at supper time as Auntie E was on babysitting duty tonight for our date night. We got all the kids fed, bathed and tucked into bed before Papa and I headed out for dinner and a movie. We went to see "Juno" which was really good. We'll see how the kids fare tonight. Bean is sweating up a storm, but doesn't feel hot and apparently Schmoo has been out of her room once already with her cough. Tomorrow's day at daycare might not happen at this rate.

Schmoo's Favourite and Not Favourite Parts of the Day

Favourite - seeing cousin I and watching Babar
Not Favourite - none

Thoughts on the Day

Have I mentioned how much I love going to the movies? It was nice to get out to a movie with Papa tonight. Our options are really limited where we live, so it's nice when there's actually a movie we want to go and see. Our usual dinner spot was under renovations so we had to try a different restaurant tonight too and it was pretty good. My eating has been terrible this week. Let's hope the scale isn't too hard on me on Monday.

My surprise dinner last night was great. Everyone was impressed with how well Papa had organized things. He knows how important my birthday is to me and tries hard to make it special. I'm starting to get really excited about my trip to the Big Smoke in a couple of weeks too. So it's almost like a birthday month this year!

Bean is doing well with his potty training. He went on the potty twice today and has started to put his underpants on by himself too. I'm trying not to be over eager, but am hoping we've started a bit of a momentum here. I can remember that Schmoo started out with one pee a day for a few weeks, so with some gentle encouragement (in the form of chocolate), I'm hoping we can start to get things really rolling. Schmoo gets really excited for him too when he goes, so there's lots of positive reinforcement.
