Mid week recap

photo - saying good bye to Grandma Lady

So many things on the go, no time to sit down and write. We've had a busy couple of days. Today was especially busy, so I'm trying hard to remember what we did on Tuesday. It was an absolutely gorgeous weather day yesterday. Everyone was up early, of course and Auntie J and Bean decided to take Airlie out for a walk after breakfast. I was expecting them to come wandering back 20 minutes later, but after 1.5 hours they finally came cruising through the door. Bean with a cookie in hand. He had decided to take Auntie J for a run down the hill into town for a muffin. They had a great time hanging out in the sunshine on the coffee shop patio watching cars and eating his Smartie cookie. The walk back was a bit more of an effort, seeing as it is all uphill. But they made it eventually.

Back at home, we had tucked Nana back into bed as she had woken up feeling ill. There's is obviously a 24 hour stomach bug lingering around our house, as Airlie had the runs too. Grandma Lady got herself organized and as Auntie J and Bean were returning, she was getting ready to head up the valley for a visit to Auntie E before carrying on to Uncle C's house. There were lots of hugs good-bye and waves at the window as she drove off.

After that, Auntie J and I rounded up the kids and headed down to the park to enjoy the sunshine. We filled up Schmoo's bike tire and she rode around the pathway, while the rest of us followed behind. The sun was bright and there wasn't any wind, so it was glorious down by the beach. On the way back to the park, I noticed there were cars outside the tram shed so we peeked our heads in and got to see the tram up on blocks having its brakes cleaned. The tram is Bean's absolute favorite summer activity, so it was fun to show it off to Auntie J. We had a snack at the park (where we saw all of Schmoo and Bean's daycare friends who were on a park field trip) and then picked up sandwiches to head back home for lunch.

We returend to a real mess - literally. Airlie's stomach had found its way onto the carpet, so instead of eating my lunch, I spent the next 1/2 hour finishing off the cleaning job that poor sick Nana had started. I think I managed to get it out and Airlie was quarantined out of the suite. The kids both went for quiet time, including a sleep, and I finally crawled into bed with Bean for my own cat nap. I had them organized for supper and then left them with Nana to sneak in a class at the gym. Auntie J was back home when I got back after a successful horseback riding trip in the mountains. Nana headed to bed early and Auntie J and I had a quiet salad supper and then watched Boston Legal before heading to bed.

Today evolved from a day of planned quietness into quite a big day. I was up and out with the kids at 8:30am - Schmoo to preschool, Bean to gymnastics. We had a great class and headed home to write up our shopping list for groceries as the cupboards were bare. In doing so, we decided that instead of sending Auntie J off to the hot springs by herself that all of us would pile in the van and go up there after lunch instead. Nana and Auntie J came for cruise around the grocery store before we went to pick up Schmoo and then after a quick lunch we headed off in the van. It's about a 45 minute drive up to the hot springs and we drove through various degrees of rain and snow, but when we got there the skies were only overcast. We had a great hour in the warm pool and going through the hot water in the caves. By the end, Auntie J was swinging both kids around in the water after their initial clingyness to their Mama.
We had promised them a hot chocolate after swimming, so instead of heading towards home, we drove another 20 minutes up the road to another cute mountain town. We found a quiet cafe that we had all to ourselves and decided to have an early dinner. The hot water started to kick in and both kids got whiny and irritable halfway through their pizza, but we pushed through and had a nice meal. It was a great opportunity to have pizza with Nana, because she was able to choose something else to eat. We wandered up and down the main street with a stop to check out the docked steam boat and then made our way home.

Both kids fell asleep in the car, thanks to Auntie J's storytelling so when we got home they were both half asleep and cranky. Papa was home from his work trip, but getting organized to play soccer tonight (brrrr). I managed to get both of them changed and tucked into bed successfully as they have both gone back to sleep. We passed a hit deer on the way back that was sad to see as you could see that it was still alive but injured. There were tons of deer out on the highway tonight, looking for green grass along the road.

Luckily everyone seems to be feeling better today. The weather hasn't been the greatest today, but we still had fun going on a group adventure. A quiet night ahead and no doubt another busy day tomorrow.
