Schmoo wore jeans today.
I was SO excited. Doesn't that seem funny?! Most mothers are excited about their little girls wanting to wear skirts and dresses. Me, I want mine to wear blue jeans. Ultimately, Auntie E wants Schmoo to wear blue jeans too, so that Cousin I, who wears jeans all the time can get the groovy hand me downs. Cousin I's stock of jeans is starting to dry up. Schmoo hasn't really worn jeans since she was probably two. And in the last couple of years, she's upright refused to wear them. So you can imagine my delight when she came out of her room this morning in her jeans! We had a moment with the button, where I thought she was going to give up and return to her usual repetoire of skirts and tights, but she stuck it out (or figured out how to snap the button) and wore them all day. Even when we got home from school, she kept them on. I was amazed how grown up she looked. They made her legs look long and lean.
The other highlights of today.....
I love my new method of getting Bean to nap. It's so cozy to lie down in his bed in the afternoon with him for 15 minutes while he stares at my face and falls asleep. Hopefully I'm not digging my own grave on this one, but for now it's a nice time for us - I get a rest and he has a nap. Although the nap backfired today as he was up past his bedtime, refusing to go to sleep.
The fall sunshine was out again today, so instead of coming right home at lunchtime, Schmoo and I picked up a sandwich before we went to get Bean and then went down to the big park for lunch and a play. Schmoo found herself a little playmate to run around the playground with and Bean happily hung out with his Mama, eating his lunch.
Tonight I tried something new. I played soccer. Can you believe it? I'm being drawn to the dark side. A friend of mine (whose son has the same name as my sister) told me about Mommy Mondays at the indoor soccer arena. Basically we had about an hour of drills and training with a proper coach and then played a mini game. I have to tell you....it was bloody hard. My chest was burning from the high speed sprinting you have to do and at the end my legs were shaking. I told Papa I now have a whole new level of respect for him. It was lots of fun so I think I'll keep it up. Of course, Papa is away all next week so I can't go next week, but after that, I think I'm in.

How excited are you !
Is wearing jeans a sign of Sophie wanting to be like her classmates perhaps?
The skirts and tights always seem to be her own exprection of who she was. Unique maybe.
I remember when clothes were not important to you in elementary days and then how hard you tried to fit in later thru clothes.
In the end it never hurts to be comfortable in blue jeans!
Congratulations on soccor! Here comes the mama!
