Weekend Update

What a weekend. Lots of grown up fun. The weekend has screamed by. Here's the highlights:
Saturday

Bean was up at 5:30am...great.

Papa up to watch soccer, Mama off to the gym. What a fun class today. Our instructor spent the first 1/2 hour of the class teaching us the zombie dance from Michael Jackson's thriller. I liked it. Some of the 50 year old miserable women in my class, didn't.

Up the hill to meet the family at Schmoo's dance class. After her class we had 45 minutes to pick up some french friends from the local food truck on main street and eat something before Bean started soccer. This week's class was much more successful. No embarrassing moments. Lots more energy and enthusiasm from Bean.

Home for a BIG SLEEP. Me with Bean, Schmoo in her bed, Papa on the couch.

Night out for Mama and Papa. I picked up the babysitter at 7pm and we left her behind with two hyper kids. I don't think we've ever let them sleep in the day before when leaving them with a babysitter, so they had lots of energy for her. I can't say I was surprised when she called the cell phone at 8:45pm saying that Bean wanted to say goodnight. Poor little guy just wanted his Mama. We were in town having dinner with two other couples - two of Papa's friends from work and their wives. We had an amazing family style dinner where the Chef (one of Papa's accounts) just cooks for the table and keeps bringing out things for the table to share. We had grilled caesar salad, mussels, brie and garlic, and then a sampling of beef, fish, lamb and peking duck for main course. Dessert was a bit disappointing, but only because the size of the 5 different cakes was so small. We carried on up to another pub after dinner for a few more drinks and LOTS of laughs before heading home after midnight. The babysitter had managed to get Bean to sleep and he didn't seem traumitized in the slightest this morning when he got up at 6:30am.

Sunday

A beautiful fall day today. Papa and Bean spent most of it out in the garden. Mama got a bit of a sleep in and then Schmoo and I went to church. There were quite a few of the kids from her class there today so she was happy to skip off to Sunday school while I was at mass. We headed into town afterwards to pick up our remaining items for the kids' Halloween costumes. Just wait until Friday when their choices and my attempts to fulfill their requests are revealed.

Home for some backyard time with Papa for the kids and kitchen time for Mama. I spent most of the afternoon baking cookies (yum) and icing the carrot cake that Papa had made yesterday for our family dinner tonight. The kids both had a nice long sleep again this afternoon and after finishing his gardening, Papa got a snooze in the sunshine on the lazyboy in the front room.

We headed off to C & H's house for dinner at 4:30pm. It was great to all be together, the three families, but in their little house the noise level was definitely high. We had a lovely dinner, a bit of an adult chat and then packed up the kids after their Backyardigans video to have them in bed by 8pm. Now Papa is watching Antony Bourdain on the Discovery Channel and I'm getting caught up on the blog.

It's been a great weekend of activity. There's lots on the go this week too....stay tuned!
