I've also been calling every family in Schmoo's class to get their email addresses so I can organize a family function for the class. It's my brain wave...get all the families together so we can get to know one another. Considering this will probably be the 18 kids that Schmoo will spend the next 5-6 years with, I thought it would be good to get to know the parents. After this week's playground tears, all the better reason to have open lines of communication with other parents so that we can help eachother maneuver the tempermental times of our children. Everyone I've talked to thinks it's a great idea. It just needed someone to get the ball rolling. And that's me. I'm such a keener, really. So amongst all my other commitments, I'm going to organize a party.....how fun! I love parties. Oh and in those phone calls there was some playdate organizing happening too.
Plus I'm getting into the party spirit. My birthday is only 8 short sleeps away and my mind is already trying to process how I want to celebrate. Of course, my present is delayed....two months until my girl's trip to Las Vegas. But like I told Papa, I'd like to do some local celebrating as well. We'll see what happens. Papa has requested Sunday night to be kept free for our family dinner and cake, but I foresee a girl's night out somewhere in the mix too!
Otherwise today has been busy. Papa took the kids to school before heading west for his business trip for the next two nights. This morning was actually the first time I thought to myself, I think I can take a break today. My work seems to be under control. In fact, the work I have typically brought home to do each week was completed at work today. I actually sat down at the break table and conversed with my colleagues today. How social! The afternoon was pretty good too. Schmoo and her friend D were flying high when I picked them up from school at noon. The chattered all the way to pick up Bean and all the way home. They both ate their lunch. In fact Schmoo tried something new - a peanut butter, honey and butter (because the butter makes the peanut butter taste better) sandwich on D's suggestion. They had a great time playing in Schmoo's room and only complained about being bored just before D's mom arrived to pick her up.
The key, I think, was keeping Bean out of the way. I managed to score an impromptu playdate for him too, inviting my friend A and her son, F over for a visit. It was a great excuse to keep Bean happy and catch up with A, who I haven't seen in ages. Unfortunately Bean wasn't into it. He was cranky and miserable for most of the time F was here, complaining about F messing up his room. So they played independently. At least A and I got a good visit.
After everyone left, I packed the kids in the car for a quick trip to the grocery store and then picked up pepperoni pizza for supper. They loved that! And there's even leftovers for their lunches tomorrow....score! Bedtime went pretty well. Both kids were exhausted so it was bath and straight to bed. Now, like I said, I'm busy organizing....and patiently waiting for 9pm to watch this week's installment of Lost!
