Today was a more "get centered" kind of day. Bean's been not quite himself since his throwing up incident last weekend and so today, instead of carting him off to the gym in the morning, I decided a low-key home-day kind of morning was in order. Plus the house had reached its breaking point and was in desperate need of some cleaning. So I took Schmoo to school and returned to do my work in laundering, cleaning bathrooms and vacuuming the house. By mid-morning we were ready for our trip to the grocery store. Bean happily rode along in the car grocery cart, eating his Starbucks gingerbread loaf while I leisurely strolled the aisles. We even had time to return the groceries to the house and put the freezer and fridge goods away before picking Schmoo up at noon.
We headed down to the mall straight away to pick out Schmoo's birthday gift for her friend E, who's having her birthday party tomorrow. We decided to stop for lunch and none of us ended up being that keen on the fast food that we got. I think it's probably time to cut out the trips for chicken dips for awhile. We returned home for quiet time. The gauntlet was laid - no sleep, no movie night at Schmoo's school. With Bean feeling a bit under the weather, I was ready to hold firm to my edict. Unfortunately for Bean, follow through was required. We lay together for almost an hour and he just wouldn't fall asleep. He even told me it was time for me to leave.....smart little kid, he knows if I go then at least he can get up and play in his room. So at 3pm, when Schmoo woke up from her nap, the hysterics began as I explained that there would be no movie night for him.
Luckily the drama was interrupted by a visit from our friend S and his mom. The kids played together and the two boys especially enjoyed watching Schmoo show off her computer skills on treehousetv.ca. Dinner was another flop with Bean....poor guy isn't feeling quite right. I did manage to get him tucked into bed though without too much fuss before Schmoo and I headed to the school for movie night. It was Kung Fu Panda, a movie we've seen already a couple of times. But movie night is all about the event, not just the movie. We invited C & H, who brought their parents too, so it was a real slumber party for Schmoo. We returned home to a quiet house with Papa on the computer and Bean fast asleep. Here's hoping tomorrow brings a bit later start. 7:00am would be a treat!
