Friday's Frenzy

So an exciting thing happened last night! I booked a flight to Las Vegas! Like our March won't be busy enough with our holiday to Mexico and a trip to Vancouver for War Amps, I thought a trip to Vegas with a group of girls to celebrate Auntie V's big birthday was in order. Special thanks to my work for letting me have an extra day off and to Papa for giving me the green light! I'm excited. I have different expectations of Vegas every time I go and if the weather's good this time, I fully intend on eating fabulous food and spending lots of time reading and sleeping by the pool.

But that's a side note. Today has been an eventful start to what should be an eventful weekend. Bean and I headed to the gym after dropping Schmoo off at school this morning. It seems like ages since he's coming with me now that I'm mostly going in the evenings or on Saturdays. He's such a trooper, happy to come along and do his own thing. I invariably find him sat on his own, happy to just play by himself. We made a quick pit stop at the second hand sports store to try on some skates. I'm thinking I'm going to give it a try with him and so just need to get my skates sharpened and him laced up and protected with a helmet. Our next stop was Schmoo's school. We were on reading duty today. It's always fun to be in the classroom and see how the kids interact. Schmoo's teacher was sick today so there was a substitute teacher who was happy to have me around for the last 1/2 hour.

With two birthday parties this weekend, a trip to the toy store was in order. Lunch could not be missed so I thought I would treat the kids to a restaurant lunch. As so often happens, a happy time treat turned into a negotiation about why one or the other (or both) were upset. Schmoo wasn't happy with my restaurant choice and Bean went ballistic when his food finally arrived and was too hot to eat. We made it through and had a successful trip to both the toy store and the book store, returning home for quiet time. I ended up having to wake up Schmoo who fell asleep in order to go to her eye doctor appointment. She did great. The whole experience being far less traumatic for everyone than the dentist last year. Home for supper, bath and a story before I headed out to babysit for friends. So here I sit in a quiet house across town, with 4 hours of videotaped TV to watch.....what a treat!
