A day of good listening

photos - close ups from yesterday's picnic, the kids in their fort
I'm feeling kind of zen right now. Today has been a good day. Lots of good listening, lots of quiet fun moments all together. I LOVE these kinds of days. When bedtime goes smoothly and there's no fight to get the kids into their beds. How refreshing to not feel like I'm maxed out by the end of the day. AND I didn't even go to the gym today!

We had a busy morning. I was busy last night getting the snack organized for Schmoo's preschool today - cut fruit, crackers, cheese, homemade banana chocolate chip muffins (cut into quarters). She was the special helper today, except we weren't there to help. I had totally forgotten about Bean's physio appointment, so we dropped Schmoo and the snack off and headed off for a busy morning. Bean wasn't really into gymnastics today. He was up super early and we had a small argument about eating breakfast so I think he was both tired and hungry. We ended up sitting on the sidelines for the last 15 minutes just watching the other kids. Maybe he was feeling frustrated too. The last circuit has lots of things that he struggles with - bear walking on bars, swinging from the ring, pulling himself up on the bar - so maybe today he just wasn't into trying.

After class we headed over to the physio. We hadn't been to see her in over a year, so Bean was pretty shy at first, but he soon came around. She had him trying all kinds of things - both fine motor like writing on the chalkboard to gross motor where he was jumping onto a mat and doing somersaults. In the end, she said his progress is great and she didn't have any concerns. She felt his arms were developing good strength and she was happy to see his back was so straight.

We picked up Schmoo and headed home for a quiet afternoon. After yesterday's busy day, I was keen to get Bean down for an earlier nap. We built a fort in the front room where the kids moved half their stuff and set themselves up for a campout. They were fighting off bears and everything. They even ate their lunches in there. We packed up at 1:30pm and all went for a nap. I had to bribe Schmoo with a surprise, but she went for a snooze too.

Papa came home around 2:30pm so I got up and resumed my day. He had his own siesta while I crawled in with Schmoo and gave her a nice snuggle. I'm starting to really enjoy spending some quiet moments with her in the afternoons while she's having quiet time. I went out to the grocery store before supper time and picked up the surprise - a movie for them to watch and picked up my tuned up bike. I rode it down the street to the car and felt excited about getting back out on it again. I'm hoping that Papa and I can take turns going down to the park now with Schmoo to ride together. Home for supper - Papa fried up some cod for the kids and then after a quick bath, the kids settled down to watch their movie. Papa went out to play tennis and I made up my own supper to sit with the kids while they watched the movie.

Like I said, bedtime was a breeze tonight. Now I'm just working away on the computer and planning to settle in with my book for an hour or so before calling it a night.
