Field trip! Field Trip!

It's Schmoo's last week of preschool and today was field trip day. The school did a whole bunch of field trips in the fall to the usual haunts - firehall, police station, post office. Today's field trip was out to a nearby provincial park where there are turtles living in the marshlands. It meant transportation for the kids, so I stepped up with my 8 passenger van. It worked out really well. The parents left the kids' booster car seats and I loaded up my van with 5 kids (including my own two). The teachers had space for the rest of the kids and another parent met us at the park with the snack. We had a great morning following the circle path around the marshlands and through the forest. All the kids were paired up and dutifully held hands with their partner as we followed the path. We made all kinds of stops to look at fruit trees, an ant hill (where one little boy had a fit when an ant crawled on him...which made me feel better about Bean's level of hysteria around flies and wasps), two little bridges and the poison ivy sign. We made it back to the picnic tables for the popsicles snack and then headed back to the preschool for the 11:15am pick up. The kids were pretty cute all riding in the van together. Schmoo and her friend O, who sat in between Schmoo and Bean, had a great time talking about Kung Fu Panda!
Home for lunch - egg, bacon and toast, as requested by Schmoo and then out again for Schmoo's gymnastics. Bean and I made a quick visit to the library to pick up a book for Mama and then went back to watch Schmoo. Bean had a great time running around with another little boy while we waited. Home for quiet time. Neither child slept, but both stayed in their rooms until it was time to get up. Schmoo kept herself busy making thank you notes for her teachers at preschool since Wednesday will be her last day. After quiet time we went out into the backyard and got a surprise visit from Auntie E, Cousin I and Baby R. The kids ran around together for 1/2 hour or so and then they headed home and we headed in for supper.

Supper was its usual chaos and frustration. Schmoo's listening wasn't very good this afternoon and didn't get any better over dinner time. She had asked to go next door to play before dinner and I had said I would think about it. Her dinner time antics squashed that option and I left for the gym as she was sitting down to watch Babar, to be quickly followed by a bath and bedtime. Both kids were fast asleep when I got home at 7:30pm. Papa and I enjoyed a lovely shrimp stirfry out on the front deck, watching the sun slip behind the mountain.
