A Weekend at Home

What a great weekend. We had no plans really and managed to just enjoy being in our space with the kids. Papa got lots of things done in the garden, which was one of his goals. He absolutely loves being out there, puttering around, pulling weeds. The lawn needed another cutting so he got to that yesterday before it rained today.

I got to spend lots of one on one time with Schmoo. We both got dressed in our exercise clothes on Saturday morning and walked into town. I had a couple of things to pick up and thought it would be nice just to hang out together. We talked all the way into town. She was such a dream, on her own. We made a couple of stops and the only incident was when she tried to negotiate having both a cookie and a lollipop. We ended with her getting both, but having one on Saturday and one on Sunday. We enjoyed a pizza lunch at bakery, even eating outside. It was a super warm day, so it was nice just to be out enjoying the sunshine. We made our way back by the waterfall and wandered through the market that is up and running down there now. It reminded me of Byron Bay in Australia, transporting me back to younger days, watching the hippies just hanging out on the lawn.
Papa and Bean had an equally enjoyable time together. They spent all their time outside in the garden. Bean loves to be out playing at the sand and water table or helping in the garden. They had cheese sandwiches together and were happy to see us when we got home. Our Saturday evening plans were thrown out the window when I went to pick up the babysitter to find her not at home. She (and her parents) had forgotten about our plans so our date night with Indiana Jones turned into pizza and a movie at home instead. It was funny to see how disappointed the kids were when I returned to the house without the babysitter.

Sunday was nice and relaxed too. Papa got up early to watch the Canada - Brazil soccer game and was disappointed when he couldn't find it on the TV. I got to have a sleep-in and then got up to get organized to go to church with Schmoo. It hadn't started to rain yet, so Schmoo and I walked to church. She wanted me to go with her downstairs to the kids bible study class and was pretty good for the rest of mass. Papa and Bean were outside waiting when we finished. Thank goodness as the rain had started. We picked up some mulch for the garden and muffins and headed home for the afternoon.

We all had some quiet time, including a snooze for Mama and Papa. Papa got up with Schmoo when her clock signalled the end of her quiet time and she snuggled up on the couch to watch Tarzan 2, while it poured with rain outside. The rest of the afternoon was quiet. Bean had a big sleep and I went out to pick up some groceries while Papa sorted out dinner for the kids. Papa had made some greek marinated pork skewers for our dinner, which we had later on. I played the Cars matching game with the kids before they had a big bath and headed off to bed.

It felt great to be home and hanging out like a family. We had another busy week ahead. Not many weeks of preschool left. July and August will feel funny with no "school" on Mondays and Wednesdays. Bean has a physio appointment this week too and the dentist is next week for both kids. We're scheduled for date night again tomorrow. Here's hoping we get to go this time!
