I couldn't write last night. I was feeling too guilty. There have been few moments in my motherhood journey so far where I've felt sick to my stomach over something that I've done (or in this case didn't do) that related to my children. I'm not a flosser. I don't floss my children's teeth on a regular basis and now Schmoo has cavities. LOTS of cavities. So many, in fact that we will be going back to the dentist for four visits over the summer to have them all taken care of. This is what we learned yesterday at the dentist appointment. I felt awful. We'll see how Schmoo feels after her first cavity filling experience next month. For now, the dentist was a good time. Both kids did great yesterday. Schmoo was a real trooper - got her teeth cleaned, checked, treated with flouride and had x-rays (which revealed the many cavities).
Bean was the even bigger surprise. Maybe I just set the bar too low for a guy his age. I expected him to refuse to open his
mouth. But after watching Schmoo, he sat in his own chair, put on the sunglasses and opened his mouth to have his teeth cleaned! Moe and Brown Seal came along for the experience as well, which made it that much more exciting for them. And they both came away with a yellow balloon and a goodie bag of treats - including a new toothbrush and many, many flossers.
The rest of the day yesterday was good. A trip to the gym in the morning. Home for lunch and early quiet time in order to go to our afternoon dentist appointment. Home for supper after the dentist and I went out after my dinner to go and babysit for my friend D. We've decided to try some babysitting swapping to reduce the costs of our nights out with our husbands. Their night out was quick and I was home before 10pm for my bedtime.
Today was pretty busy in different ways. Schmoo was at preschool in the morning and then went to her friend M's house for lunch and a playover. I didn't even need to pick her up! Bean and I went to gymnastics and then brought cousin I home with us for a playover with our friend F. Auntie E brought in
lunch after her yoga class and then I hung out with the napping toddlers while she and Baby R did their grocery shopping. They left when Schmoo returned home.
A pretty quiet remainder to the day. Schmoo was exhausted and cranky from a full day and since Bean didn't have a nap, he was ready for an early bedtime as well. So after Babar and a bath, they were tucked in bed before 7pm. The lack of nap is wreaking havoc tonight, as Bean is restless and upset. Poor thing really struggles when he doesn't have a nap. He did have another successful lack of pullup day. He manages to time his bowel movements for sleep time and a pullup, but otherwise, he went without a pullup again all day with no accidents. I'm still waiting for him to ask to go to the bathroom, but at this point am happy with baby steps.
We are definitely ready for the weather to change. It was cool and overcast again this morning, but the sun has broken through tonight. The worst part of the grey weather is the wind. This means a very wiggy dog - one who somehow manages to lie still all evening and then pace and drive me mental all night. Here's hoping the weather is brightening up!
PS - Happy Anniversary Papa! It was 10 years ago today that Papa landed in Canada to stay! What a crazy decade!
