Weekend Living

Friday was pretty uneventful. Kids were at daycare, I spent the morning at the gym. I met my friend L for lunch on a spur of the moment. We had a great catch-up. I returned home for an afternoon siesta. As I lay in bed, I thought to myself....isn't it funny that we are paying people to take care of our children so we can have an afternoon nap?! Auntie E and Uncle R came over for a wonderful wild prawn and steak dinner al a Papa. The kids were in bed early after a busy day at daycare. We had a great visit over dinner and into the evening and they decided to stay the night. It's so great to have the suite available for them to have impromptu sleepovers like that. They were up early though. Cousin I was apparently up and asking to leave at 5:00am, so they were long gone by the time our kids started asking to get up at 6:30am.

Today was another rainy day. Papa was up early with the kids and managed to watch the opening ceremonies of the European Soccer Championships on the big upstairs TV. He was watching the opening game when I came out to make the kids their pancake breakfast. Bean was ravenous this morning. He couldn't get the pancakes into his mouth fast enough, so it seemed. Schmoo was right behind him, making sure that he didn't eat more pancakes than she did. After their breakfast we got ourselves organized and went down to the big park for a race that wasn't happening. Apparently I have trouble reading dates now, as I thought there was a local fundraising event happening that included a kids section, but it's tomorrow. So instead Papa and Bean took Airlie for a walk on the beach and I spent some time up at the playground pushing Schmoo on the swings. Winter must really be gone as we managed to run into two families at the park that we knew. That's one of the greatest things about small town living - being able to go to the park and see other kids that we know.
At 11:30am, Bean's favourite tram rolled around the corner. He raced to the entrance, eager for his first ride of the season. We got on the tram at the same time as another set of kids that Schmoo and Bean know from daycare. N, the 4-year old, is another Thomas fan. We all rode the tram together down to the mall, where Papa was waiting for us and made plans with N's mom for us to come over after lunch. So well laid plans for a family day out turned into new and more exciting plans for the day! We came home for lunch and then left Papa to his chores. We had a great playdate at N's house. N and Bean were more interested in playing together, but Schmoo flitted between playing with the boys and being with the moms where she could read books and colour. We returned to a clean house, thanks to Papa. While he went out to pick up some groceries, we got down to tidying up Schmoo's room. It tends to need a purge about once a month. We sorted through all her art work and were able to get rid of a whole bag of paper. Then we reorganized the shelves to get even more things off the floor. It looked great!

Papa came home and got busy in the kitchen. After the kids's supper I headed out with Airlie for a nice long walk in the sunshine that had decided to appear and left Papa with bedtime duty. What a treat for Mama. We went for a long walk down through town to pick up movies and a Slurpee before heading home. I returned to a very quiet house and a wonderful pasta dinner. We curled up on the couch to watch a movie - Papa managed almost a whole hour before dozing off. Poor Bean has just been working through a night terror as I've been at the computer. Missing his nap really throws a wrench into his night time sleeping.
