Don't be fooled

We're not really sleeping, but this is what the energy level is like after a long day at school and work. Schmoo was almost asleep on the couch having a snuggle with me after school today. Her mood did not improve and we battled at dinnertime about whether or not she could chew the pork cutlet I had baked for her dinner. Her whining voice told the whole story - I'm exhausted. So I finally took away dinner, put her in the bath, let her watch a show and put her to bed. She had a nice story with Papa and was likely asleep as soon as the door closed behind me.

An interesting observation today....We're only into week four at school and already Schmoo seems concerned about what the other kids think. She was never worried about kids laughing at her at daycare, but suddenly she is concerned about them laughing because she's brining an egg for lunch?! I tried to reassure her that what she brings for lunch is not something kids make fun of. It pull one of my heartstrings though as I hate to think that already she's starting to get caught up in what she should or shouldn't be doing in the eyes of her friends.

Bean, on the other hand, was full of energy. I have no idea why, since he failed to nap at preschool today. But he came home from school and promptly finished the rest of the food in his lunchbox. Then he went outside with his Papa to help trim the plum tree and harvest a big bucket of plums. One of his main jobs was to keep Airlie from stealing the plums from the bucket. She seems to like them and they of course give her the runs. He was happy and full of mischief all through dinner. He even ate all his dinner. It took him forever, but he ate it all. But he too was asleep quickly when we put him to bed. It does feel weird to be putting them to bed just after 6pm, but it's the best for both of them. Tired, cranky children are absolutely no fun to be around.

My day was a full one. At work by 7:30am, I kept my head down for most of the day. It was a beautiful fall day here, so I was thankful for my walk at lunch down to the bank to soak in some sun before picking up a sandwich and heading back to my little dungeon under the store. Every day presents a new thing to learn and figure out, or so it seems. It feels great to be back in action though. I was able to sneak off for a nice long walk with Airlie tonight after we put the kids to bed and returned to supper in the kitchen. Papa has some more work to do so I'm finishing up this blog and planning for an early night. My late night TV watching last night didn't feel so great when the alarm went at 6am this morning.
