End of one era and start of a new one

Mama went to work today. It's been over three and a half years since I've contributed to the Canadian economy to earn hard cold cash, but today I started on a new path as a part-time bookkeeper. I was excited....and a little bit nervous. As much as I know one of the owners of my new place of employ, there's a whole other contingent of new people to get to know. I'm also starting from scratch, essentially on being a bookkeeper. I'm feeling a bit more confident now that I've worked my way through a bookkeeping textbook this past summer, but I still have A LOT to learn. By the end of my first morning, my brain felt numb from trying to absorb all the new information that it was given today. By 2pm, all I wanted to do was lie down and sleep, but I persevered and even managed to do some housework. By 4:30pm, I was feeling a bit more motivated and energetic and by 6:00pm I was at the gym for step class. It meant a late supper, but I actually feel much better for going. My body has a nice tired ache to it and I'm hoping that tonight I'll sleep like a log.

The kids did great again today. They actually slept past the 6:15am time I was counting on them to get me up at. We managed to all get ourselves organized and Papa had the kids out the door just after 7:30am. I made my way to work, leaving Papa his car near Schmoo's school. When I walked back up the hill for noon to pick up Schmoo, there was my van waiting for me on the street. I think the car swap will work well. Papa says the drop-off went great. Neither child seemed fussed about being there. Schmoo hardly seemed to notice that I was waiting for her when she finished at noon. She came racing out of the classroom, straight out onto the playground. I let her play a bit while I chatted and then we headed off to pick up Bean. His group was just getting ready for lunch and he was visibly disappointed that he wasn't able to stay and eat his lunch at school.

We headed home for lunch. Bean at out of his lunchbox, sitting on Papa's lap and Schmoo and I snuck back into town to the mall to get sandwiches from Quiznos. Bean was in his room when we got back, but proceeded to spend a restless quiet time coming in and out of his room. Neither of them slept and at 3pm they came out to play together. We all played a bit of Go Fish before supper and then they ate their beans, egg and veggies. A quick bubble bath and then they were allowed to watch a show before bedtime with Papa.

Yesterday was a fantastic day. Papa spent the day with the kids, taking them up the valley to a local festival. Our friend L, who had hosted us for dinner on Saturday night tagged along with them, providing an extra set of eyes for the little ones. It sounds like they had a fantastic day. They got balloons, new hand painted t-shirts, ate ice cream, hot dogs, garlic popcorn and popsicles. They even managed to find C & H at the end of their day amongst the crowd. They were both fast asleep in bed when I came home at 7pm from my monster hike with my friend A. It was an amazing hike. We made our way up an alpine valley and climbed to the peak of a mountain range, scaling up a settled rock slide, and venturing over the other side to see the glacier. We kept a good pace, with some good breaks along the way and managed the whole trip in 8 hours. By the time we got back to the truck, I was exhausted and achy and by the time I got home, all I wanted to do was sleep. A nice warm bath and back ribs for dinner perked me up a bit, but I was still ready for bed pretty early. I took whole roll of film on our old camera, so will have those pictures ready for viewing tomorrow.
