Our first school event

Today was full of activity. The kids were up at their usual time, but got to enjoy a leisurely start with some quiet time in their rooms and a couple of shows before breakfast. Schmoo had spent the night in our bed after waking up just before I went to bed last night. Bean and I dropped Schmoo off at school and carried on to the gym. There is a teacher on the playground starting at 8:30am until the bell rings at 8:55am. Last week Bean and I had stayed at the school until the bell rang, but today it was obvious that Schmoo didn't need us to stick around, so we headed off a bit earlier. We barely snuck into the gym's daycare in time for me to go to my class at 9:15am. It was a good class and it felt good to be there after a week of limited gym activity, with Papa being away for work.

We ran a couple of errands after I was finished at the gym - a trip to the grocery store and to drop off some movies - before returning to the school to pick up Schmoo. We headed straight home for our afternoon playdate with C & S, who came for lunch with their mom, C. She left the kids with me as she headed off to an appointment and when she returned, all of the kids were outside playing in the backyard. We enjoyed another couple of hours of sitting on the back deck talking, while the kids ran around in bathing suits, pretending to go swimming. They headed home around 4pm and Schmoo and Bean went for some quiet time. Bean almost immediately crashed out into his deep sleep nap and wasn't very happy when I woke him up at 5:30pm to go to the BBQ at Schmoo's school. Papa returned safely from his business trip just in time to join us.

The school yard was a buzz of activity when we arrived. There were tons of families there and the kids were running around. Schmoo bounced around between us and various friends. Bean stuck a bit closer by, especially at the beginning when he was still grumpy from waking up. We ate our hot dog / Italian sausage dinner together with various salad and dessert selections from the potluck table. Schmoo then got to take us into the school and show us her classroom and the other rooms she uses for school - the gym, the computer lab, the library. We packed them up around 7:15pm and returned home for bed. It was a great first event at Schmoo's new school. There is a wonderful sense of community at this school and it was great to see some other people we know and meet some new ones. Now I'm ready for a nice big sleep after a super busy week.
