but you can't pick your neighbours. These days when you buy a house, the current owners have to provide a property disclosure statement. They have to say, to the best of their knowledge, whether the house has any known (or previously known) issues. Things like water damage, how old the roof is, etc. Wouldn't it be nice, if, as part of this disclosure statement, they could disclose what kind of neighbours you would have? Nice old people who turn to you for a hand once in a while. Another young family with kids the same age as yours....or even better ones with a kid old to babysit. Or, in our case, a 20-something, single guy who has a loud mouth and tendency to return home from the pub at 3am with several friends, with no intentions of going to bed?!
Can you guess what kind of sleep I had last night? A rotten one. Of course, last night was the first in several nights that I didn't get a late night visitor in my bed, so it only seemed right that our neighbour would wake me up at 3am when he returned home from his night on the town. It wasn't bad enough to hear him at 3am, but they were still out there at 4:30am when I woke up again, AND were still out there at 6am when Schmoo came into my room to get up with the alarm. I found it even funnier (strange choice of word, I know) that he was out there this afternoon with his friends when I got home from work at 3pm. I desperately wanted to take a picture of the beer cans strewn across the back yard, but by the time I got out there with the camera (and they were gone again), they had obviously cleaned up. Let's hope they don't make it a double header tonight.
So other than the restless sleep last night, today was a good one. Both kids had a long, but happy day at school. I managed to drop them off and make it to work for 8am and start my day. Every day feels a bit more comfortable at work. I'm slowly making my way through the main tasks of the job for the first time and starting to organize my space. I still found more than enough work to do to keep me going until 2:30pm and of course, had lots of questions along the way. I made my way back up the hill to pick up Schmoo at 3pm and headed straight over to get Bean after that.
They were both in good spirits, but exhausted. They promptly set the couch up to watch their movie from yesterday again and I could hardly argue. No sense getting them all strung out playing when we could all spend a peaceful hour watching a movie before bedtime. I made them pizza for supper and after a big bath and Schmoo's new Franklin story from the library, I had them in bed by 6:30pm. I've ordered my own pizza and wings for dinner and plan to settle in for another riveting 3 hours of "The Tudors" that I rented yesterday. Looking forward to a non-work day tomorrow with my boy and to Papa coming home. I'm also eagerly awaiting news from both Grandmas - one for an update on Grandad and the other for an update on Grandma Lady's travel plans now that she's back from Beijing.
