An extra family day

Today feels like a Sunday. I know that for the rest of the week, I'm going to be thrown off on the days because today was a holiday. Most of the time there's a stat holiday (or bank holiday as they call them in England), Papa has to work from home for most of the day, so it's hardly a family day. But today he managed to get most of his work sorted and we were able to head out and have a family outing in the late morning. The kids started our day off right with a nice long lie in for Mama and Papa. Schmoo was still up around 6:45am, asking for her ponytails to be put in, but she went back in her room until 7:30am and then happily watched TV until 8:30am when Bean started demanding his snack. We had french toast for breakfast and finally headed out the door around 11am to go and see the turtles that live down the road. You may remember these turtles from our earlier visit with Schmoo's preschool back in June. (click on June for the story)
We had a quick walk around the loop. Airlie came along for the walk and was pulling to keeping walking. Schmoo wanted to make it around the loop as quickly as possible, or so it seemed. Both kids were amazing in how they could remember things we had looked at with the preschool group and wanted to show Papa. We managed a quick stop to look at the turtles (two adults and three babies) and made it back to the car for the gummy treats that Bean insisted on carrying with him on the walk.

We returned to town and made a quick pit stop at the grocery store before Papa and the kids dropped me off in town to wander the main street to peruse the Labour Day clothing sales. I managed to see a few things I liked, but of course none of it was on sale so I abstained. I'll wait until my paychecks actually start coming in before I start spending them. I made a quick stop for a wrap before making my way to the bottom of main street to my friend D's office where I got a massage. I guess going out with her last night was a good thing, as she had decided to sneak in a few clients today and I was her first call. It was a great way to top off the weekend.

I walked back up the hill to the house and find Bean and Papa out in the garden and Schmoo fast asleep. Papa was unsuccessful in finding a golfing partner today, but went up to the driving range to hit balls for a couple of hours while I hung out and fed the kids. They both ate all their dinner (a rarity with Bean these days) so were rewarded with a bowl of vanilla ice cream. This, of course, gave them some extra energy so they spent some time after dinner with their super hero capes on running around the back yard. They came in for a long overdue bath and were in bed by 7pm. Schmoo got some extra play time in her room tonight since she had had a nap, but was asleep before our movie was over at 9pm. Papa made a nice butter chicken dinner and we watched a very confusing movie - The Fountain. Papa's headed to bed early and me and my over active mind are going to spend some time with my accounting textbook before heading to bed.

Only 2 more sleeps til kindergarten and 7 more sleeps til Mama starts work!
