Family Sunday in the Sunshine

The Activities

The sun was glorious today. A beautiful spring day. High of 10C! Once we were all out of bed (I got to have an extra sleep-in when Papa got up with the kids so he could watch soccer), I was determined for us to get out of the house and spend some time outside. After some coordinating with Auntie E, we packed up the van and headed up the valley to meet them for a walk. We brought all three dogs, who probably had the best time. The kids couldn't decide if they wanted to walk or ride in the sled. We only brought one sled, so of course all three kids couldn't fit into one sled. But we still managed to stay out for an hour, go for a bit of a walk and get some sunshine. We headed back to Auntie E's house for some belated lunch - hungry kids was probably part of their problem. It was nice to just hang out as a family, an extended family.

We got home around 2:30pm and Bean had fallen asleep in the car on the way back. I had hoped I could just put him in his bed, but no such luck. He rummaged around for a while and then when I noticed that Schmoo was starting to drift off in her room, I got them both up to ensure that we would get an early bedtime instead. Papa made up a batch of his yummy homemade tomato sauce and after supper and a bath, the kids have gone to bed early. We have a super busy day tomorrow, so I want them to have a good night's sleep. We're going to settle in to watch Jamie Oliver and then the movie "Reign over Me".

Thoughts on the Day

It was really nice to get out as a family today. Too easily the days get away from us when we stay at home on the weekend. It was nice to go out to Auntie E's house too. I don't think we've been out there since Christmas, since they've been coming into town so often. Cousin I was so cute with her touque and sunglasses on. Schmoo still wasn't a happy camper today. She was cranky for most of the walk and we managed to have a full meltdown before we got into the car. So many things seem to be a struggle these days, especially the way she is talking back. I'm hoping it's just a phase and that our constant reinforcement that she can't talk that way will change her behaviour. She really is lovely when she's in a good mood though. Bean was full of snuggles this afternoon, which is always a nice feeling.
