I'm running behind. Auntie E was over for a sleepover last night, so I didn't get to the blog before I went to bed. When they come to visit, there's a whole bunch of people wanting to use the computer. They only have a dial-up connection, so it's painful to use their internet at home.
Tuesday's activities were up and down. Bean was up early, "arping" with his seal for attention. I went in and changed him into his underpants and left the door ajar so he could come out to use the bathroom. Otherwise, he was happy to play quietly in his room for another hour. Schmoo is a harder sell. She is eager to turn the TV on or play with Bean, both of which I'm not eager for her to do as early at 6:30am.
I got everyone organized and we headed to the gym for my class. Schmoo wasn't keen on going, but when I told her we would go to the park afterwards, she was a bit more willing. My class was great and the kids had fun in the daycare. Schmoo recognized a couple of kids from her preschool class while we were there too. We headed to the park, only to discover that I had forgotten her regular snow boots. She left the house wearing some knee-high black fancy boots that were pas
sed along from big cousin R in Calgary (Auntie E's niece). They're no good for playground activity, so we returned home upset.
We had lunch and quiet time, with promises of a trip to the park if Bean had a nap. Sure enough, he did and we were getting organized to go to the park when Papa returned home from work. He and Airlie decided to join us for some winter sunshine. The park was pretty messy, but the kids were still happy to be outside and running around. Papa called one of his friends and he brought down his kids to play too. It's like going to the dog park with another dog, the kids always have more fun when there's other kids along.
Apparently the fresh air put Schmoo over the top. We didn't get home until after 5pm and despite me bringing a snack, she was over tired, hungry and miserable. We pushed through a tantruming bath and supper and put her to bed early. Auntie E was here with her kids (Uncle R was teaching) so cousin I joined in the suppertime craziness.
Once the kids were in bed, I helped Auntie E try and give baby R a bottle. He took it much better than Cousin I ever did and after some cuddling and rocking, I got him to sleep. Papa was out playing soccer, so we had a girl's night of TV watc
hing until the boys got home. They decided to stay over since they had a bunch of appointments in town in the morning.
Schmoo's Favourite and Not Favourite Part of the Day
Favourite - seeing her friend little E down at the park
Not Favourite - when Papa got upset with her for not listening at bathtime
Thoughts on the Day
There's lots of limits being tested these days. I guess it's what kids do and staying firm is what we as parents have to do. I did have a nice snuggle on the couch with Schmoo in the afternoon where we talked about my family - mostly my brother and sister and got into a discussion about broken bones. She couldn't quite understand how you could break your arm, but that it would still be there. It was nice to spend the evening with Auntie E. I'm trying hard not to think about them leaving the area in the fall, which Uncle R goes to grad school for a couple of years. They're still waiting to hear from all the places he applied, but it looks like they will be going for sure. I will miss having them around.
