Party Day

The Activities

Party Day started early, as expected. Schmoo came calling at 6:30am and Bean started shouting not long afterwards. Papa got up to get them started and took Airlie out for a walk to avoid the barking frenzy at 7am on a Sunday morning. The morning was spent getting organized for the party - cutting fruit and veggies, vacuuming and a quick entertaining of some friends who stopped by on their walk. The kids were both flying high in anticipation of their friends arrival.

Things kicked off right at 11:30am. Everyone came, except S who had a fever so stayed home with his Dad. It was a high energy party. Lots of loud voices and running around, but the kids got on well. Schmoo managed to run into the TV cabinet, giving herself a bruise on her shoulder, but bounced back quickly. A bunch of the parents stayed for the party, so there were lots of extra hands to help out. The kids ate tons at lunch (fruit, veggies, pizza) and of course loved the chocolate cake. The present opening was even civilized, with each child waiting patiently for their turn to give Bean their gift. Everyone was packed up and off by 2pm. By the time we had tidied up it was close to 2:30pm, so instead of trying for quiet time, I went for a run into town and picked up the newest kids movie on DVD - The Bee Movie for the kids to watch. They were not as entranced as I had hoped and most of the afternoon has been hyper children running around doing different things and making me crazy.

Papa went out this afternoon to visit his friend U again in the hospital. He also dropped off Bean's toddler bed to the friends who stopped by this morning. Just so happens they were looking for a toddler bed and we had one to get rid of. It saw lots of miles, that little bed - Schmoo slept in it for 2 years and Bean in it for one.

We've had an early bedtime - both kids wound up and over tired. Hopefully that won't bring the morning too quickly again. Bean is excited about having more cake tomorrow for his real birthday. I'm excited of a quieter noise level in the house this evening after today's events.

Schmoo's Favourite Parts of the Day

Favourite - watching Bee movie, the party, the cake, seeing all the guests
Not Favourite - when she fell and hurt herself and something about her friend C not being friendly

Thoughts on the Day
I always find myself thoughtful on the day before the kids' birthdays, since I spent the day before their birthday in labour. I am conscious of different times in the day when I remember things happening. 4pm is when things got really going at the hospital with Bean. 8pm is when I got the epidural. I doubt I'll be up at 12:01am when he was born tonight. I'll admit that my mind is settled now with having only two children. I find myself frustrated with the once a night wakings we get sometimes now. I can't imagine having to wake up with a newborn again. Now that Bean is three we'll really be able to start doing things as a family. Getting out and about. The cruise this spring will be lots of fun with both kids, I'm sure.
