So apparently today is the earliest we will ever see Easter fall in our lifetime. I think the snow that fell all day was a clear giveaway that Easter does not usually fall in the middle of March. The Easter egg hunt in our house was confined to the indoors. Thankfully our house is bigger now, so I could set it all up last night downstairs so the kids weren't charging around searching before we could get up and out of bed. Both kids were pretty excited about the Easter Bunny's visit. They were eating chocolate before breakfast and still managed to eat some healthy breakfast as well.
I spent the morning in the kitchen, getting food ready for the two Easter parties we attended today. The first was a kids Easter egg hunt outside at a new friend's house. Apparently there were 14 kids there - all under the age of 8, I would guess. My friend A had it all organized. They each had their own bucket and there were tons of plastic eggs, filled with all kinds of candy and stickers hidden around their garden. The kids had a great time running around scooping up the eggs and filling their buckets. I think everyone came away pretty satisfied with their haul. Then we went inside for a monster brunch of all kinds of good food...including chocolate cupcakes, which was the focus of Schmoo and Bean, of course. Papa stayed home to do some food preparation for our dinner party and was just heading out to the hospital to visit his friend U when we came home.
The kids both cooperated and had a big nap this afternoon. Schmoo is pretty good at settling in for a nap when I ask her to have one so we can stay out late. Papa was home quickly - U was sleeping - so we got to have an afternoon cat nap as well. The snow continued to fall all afternoon and into the evening. We headed out around 4pm to our friends' house for dinner. It was our usual gang of three families. Six kids running around the house playing, six parents eating and visiting (and intervening when required). We had a wonderful ham dinner with mashed potatoes (of course), broccoli casserole and salad. There were three desserts on offer too, which we ate in rounds. The dads took the kids out for a walk in the snow after dinner to run off some energy while the moms cleaned up. We headed out around 8:30pm and now, an hour later, the kids are tucked into bed. We drove home playing "knock knock" as it was too dark to play "I spy".
Schmoo's Favourite Parts of the Day
Favourite - looking for eggs at our house and S's house, eating chocolate, seeing C, H, C and S at dinner time
Not Favourite - snow (this was mine as well as I'm ready for winter to be over)
