The Stage is Set and the Bed is Made

The Activities
Well, there's no more toddlers living in this house. Bean has officially moved up to a big boy bed and what a BIG bed it is. Papa set up the new bed frame that we and Grandma Lady bought for Bean for his birthday. He has been vibrating with high energy all day long in anticipation of his birthday. His energy has been high and low, unfortunately. But mostly high.

We had a late night (or early morning visitor) last night. Schmoo came into our room for the second time at around 5am wanting a snuggle. She climbed into our bed and fell fast asleep until 7am when everyone woke up. Papa got the kids started with their shows, milk and snack and headed downstairs to watch his soccer. I got up in time to head out to the gym for 9am and Bean was already wiggling and crawling all over Papa, asking for this and that (mostly just to watch Cars on video). I returned home to find Papa busy cleaning out Bean's room after removing his toddler bed. We had the bed and mattresses set up before Papa and Schmoo headed out to soccer for noon.
Bean is VERY proud of this new bed. We put on the new Thomas sheets and found a spot for all his stuffies. We put all his toys and trains back in his room and after a very long lunch, he was eager to go for quiet time. We had a nice snuggle - what a treat to be able to stretch right out to snuggle with him. Unfortunately, the nap was a harder sell. He rummaged and complained for over an hour and finally fell asleep at 3pm. Schmoo came home proud of her birthday gift shopping with Papa. She had picked out a new train - Diesel 10 - to give to Bean for his birthday. After her peanut butter sandwich, she went into her room for some quiet time too.

Papa was out in the afternoon visiting his friend U (that we went to Mexico with) who is in the local hospital because of chest pains. He's had a heart attack before so they are taking lots of precautions. Papa came home tired, so we tucked him into bed and Schmoo and I headed into town to pick up the birthday cake and do the grocery shopping. We came home for beans and bagels for supper and some very hyper children. It wasn't all sunshine to start. Poor Bean woke up in the miserable mood and spent 1/2 an hour crying for his Mama until I came home. Schmoo brought him around eventually and soon enough they were playing on his new bed, making up funny games.

Bedtime wasn't so smooth. Poor Schmoo just doesn't stop during the day and by 6pm she's exhausted and miserable. Her mood escalated into various tantrums and she ended up going to bed without a story. She was asleep as soon as her head hit the pillow. Bean took a bit longer, but sure looked cute tucked up in his new bed. He's gone from looking gigantic to looking so small again. Papa and I had a nice homemade mushroom soup and caesar salad for dinner and then snuggled up to watch Dead Poets Society on video.

Schmoo's Favourite Parts of the Day
Favourite - playing soccer
Not Favourite - when Mama wouldn't read her a bedtime story

Thoughts on the Day
I anticipate an early start tomorrow. Bean (and Schmoo) is excited about his birthday and tomorrow is birthday party day. Luckily the party starts just before lunch time, so he won't have to wait too long. We'll save our presents (and Nana and Grandad's) to give to him on his actual birthday on Monday. Schmoo is very excited to participate in the party too and hopefully she'll be happy with her own goodie bag that she'll get after the party tomorrow.
