So long Uncle C (and a tardy Wednesday catch up)

The Activities

NEWS FLASH: Papa's soccer team won on Tuesday night with a score of 7-4. It was a big win. The first round of the playoffs against the second place team. It means they will progress next week and play at least two more games. Needless to say, Papa is very proud and excited.

I was out for dinner last night, so didn't get a chance to catch-up on Wednesday's events. We had another busy day. Uncle C headed out today, after lunch with me and the kids. We were all sad to see him go. The kids really loved having him here this visit. They always wanted to sit with him or show him something. Bean had a great gymnastics class with his friend F and we spent the rest of the morning at home with Uncle C.

After lunch, we waved good-bye to Uncle C and Steed and went to do some grocery shopping. Schmoo had misplaced her penguin toy that she had taken to preschool so we went back to find it. There was a brief moment of hysteria when I couldn't find it at school. Luckily he was safely tucked into her jacket pocket, which we found at the grocery store. We came home for a very un-quiet, quiet time. Bean refused to sleep and spent most of his time shouting at me. The kids got up and we made some chocolate chip cookies for the mother's group on Thursday.

And then I had a brain wave. It was beautiful and sunny on Wednesday and I wanted to get the kids outside. Our backyard is still an icy and snowy mess, so no fun to play in. When I suggested a walk, Schmoo resisted, but then I said she could walk Airlie. She LOVED it. She was so proud walking the dog. It got all of us out for an hour - including Airlie, who did her business without the hysterics of barking at the dog next door. We were home after 5pm for dinner. As a special treat (and because the kids were doing such good listening), I set them up at the coffee table to watch Babar while they ate their tortellini supper. Again, they loved it.

After supper I gave them a bath and then I walked into town to meet my friend A-M for a Thai dinner. After going to the same restaurant last week with some other friends, I'll be happy to stay away from Thai food for a while. It was an early dinner, so I was home by 8:30pm. It feels so great to walk in and out of town. Papa was busy at the computer watching videos of The Cult. He's getting ready to go on a roadtrip to Calgary in April with his friend to see them in concert.

Thoughts on the Day

Life is so good when the kids are in good moods and do good listening. I was so happy that the walk after quiet time idea was so successful. It's a good way for us all to get out and moving after their afternoon quiet time AND it will get Airlie out for a bit of a walk too. We made it all the way down the hill to watch the waterfall that is at the bottom of the hill. Schmoo and Bean did a few laps of a series of rock steps and it was cute to watch Schmoo helping Bean maneuver through the snow that was left on some of the steps.

I'm not sure how the dog thing is going to continue to play out. When we sent Airlie out for a pee at bedtime, the neighbour's dog barked back at her and she came scurrying back into the house. Hopefully they'll figure it out and find a peaceful way to co-exist. I'm certainly not going to hold my breath.
