As I drove into town tonight to pick up our pizza dinner, I could see the almost full moon above the mountains. It suddenly became clear to me why everything has felt off kilter today. Bean was in a horrible mood and tested my patience all day long. Schmoo came and went - sometimes listening, but a lot of the time harassing her brother and growling at me. My mood too, was off. Nothing seemed to be able to turn my mood - even the bright sunshine. So I'm going to blame it on the full moon and hope that tomorrow is a better day.
We had a busy morning. Bean had his final gymnastics class and Schmoo was excited to come and be the spectator. She sat patiently with all of the other family members watching the kids do their thing. Bean did great. And today he even found a way to do the bear walk (where they walk on all fours on their feet, not their knees) like the other kids. Before today he's always just scooted around on his hand and knees, but today he got right up and supported himself on his right hand. Schmoo liked running around and showing him how to do things during the free time. And of course, Bean loved chasing his friend F around and interacting with him. We have a one week break now and then start the next session of gymnastics, so Nana will be able to see both kids in action when she is here.

After gymnastics we headed down to Lakeside Park with F and his mom, after stopping to pick up a muffin. Schmoo and F had a great time running around - after both kids had a fit on me on the swings. I just couldn't push them fast or high enough so they both kept shrieking at me. I finally stopped and told them I was finished. Bean wasn't interested in playing much after that and after a brief sit on the park bench to eat some muffin, he spent the next 1/2 hour whining to go home. I finally packed them up and headed home around 11:30am for lunch. After lunch I put them both in their rooms and told them that Mama needed a break today, so they were to stay quietly in their rooms. Schmoo actually had a sleep and Bean rummaged for 2 hours. I managed to get a bit of a cat nap, but was disrupted by the phone and Bean's calling.
I did manage an outside interlude with Airlie at one point this afternoon. I thought I'd give her free run to see if she settled down after her initial barking frenzy. But to no avail. She paces the fence barking ferociously and the neighbour's dog paces the fence in the play position. Great exercise for both of them, but how annoying that Airlie just won't stop barking. Looks like she'll be spending lots of outside time on the front deck this summer.
The rest of the afternoon didn't get much better. I suggested going outside and they refused. So I started to do chores and they started whining to go outside. They couldn't find a rhythm with each other either. Schmoo would make Bean scream to stop what ever she was doing and then he would run up to her, encouraging her to do it again. Talk about how to make your mother mental. Their behaviour resulted in the removal of Babar privileges so after supper we went outside to rake up the grass in the front yard. The kids ran around and even tried to help with the extra rakes. They were fascinated with looking for moss around our house and our neighbour's front step. We have a little access box in our front grass and they were pretending to feed the fish by dropping blades of grass down the holes. We went across the street to see our neighbour, the arbourist, who has renovated the house next to him to rent out and got to look at his flowerbed of crocuses - purple, yellow and white. It was pretty cute to see the kids crouched down to smell them.
Papa returned home while we were still outside and we all went in for baths and bedtime. Schmoo got to stay up a bit late in her room, since she had a nap today and Bean went to bed smoothly considering he didn't have a nap. We've spent the evening eating pizza, watching Woody Allen (and snoozing on the couch). The week will certainly feel long this week as it is a holiday on Friday so the kids won't be at daycare this week.
Schmoo's Favourite Parts of the Day
Favourite - watching Bean do gymnastics and having a cookie
Not Favourite - none, at least Schoo thought it was a good day
